savramesh 37 Report post Posted July 11, 2009 ^^^ not only cinema hall shops, but bustand shops, tourist place shops, all are selling above mrp.. i have fighted with many shops for selling 1 or 2 rupees above mrp. some years back i heard from a consumer council that if u find some one selling above mrp then ask him a bill and then using that bill we can forward a consumer case and put him on trouble. but most of the shops today will not give bill.. you can try being friendly to him and tell u can claim bill from office etc.. there should be some other way to trap all these shops through sales tax dept. dont know much about it. but i would like to know and do something against this.. Thnx Please don't use short forms of English, it is very difficult to understand the words. Those who sending sms's using short words can know the meaning quickly. But try to avoid using short words in the forums. This is not sms's. Complaint to Consumer forums, then may be they will take action. This is happening not even in Cinema halls, hypermarkets, Star hotels, even in "Airports". Airport restaurents charging 50% additional with the normal prices. santhoshavanoor 7 Report post Posted July 13, 2009 @Santhosh..sorry bro..!! from now on i'll keep that in mind Thanks Kunal... ^^^i have mailed the doubt to sales tax india email. lets wait for the reply.. That's very quick, Thanks Mr. Ramesh. Actually the Food chain services in India cheating their customers. Here in Bahrain with KFC they charges 300 fils for each cup of soft drinks, and we are forced to buy their cupped soft drinks if we are eating in their shops. For a 330ml pepsi bottle costing only 100 fils, they are charging 3 times more. If we ask them to remove the soft drink from the menu, then they will deduct 200 fils only, Ha ha what a mess. So we are opting to buy drinks from super markets.
Shabz 8 Report post Posted July 13, 2009 This is what they call as Luxury Tax You stay in hotels they will charge you more than MRP and then add sales/service tax to it I had a fight with the manager of Hotel in Dlhi and then paid him what was his due and left the hotel without paying extra They can only harass you but they also can't take legal action against you or call the police because they themselves are wrong. ani_meher 42 Report post Posted July 14, 2009 I remember, that in Taj hotel, Mumbai, the bottled water was for 90rs/liter! 9000% hike! I wondered what exactly they did to command so much premium. At this cost, if I buy the bottle, I won't even touch it. I will expect some beautiful lady to come and pour the water in my mouth Duniya zukti hai zukanewala chahiye, nothing else. They are charging because people don't give a damn, that's the truth.

Harshal 11 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 Actually I have read somewhere that Hotels and Restaurants are allowed to charge premium over the MRP since they are providing service also. So the charge is for that service. However, I agree movie halls and all other places including airport food outlets should not charge above MRP. Most chain theatres and chain eateries carry specially marked MRP items. So they are circumventing the system Really sad!
