The service is not available for folks outside U.S

Google Android and RIM BlackBerry phone owners will enjoy better call management with Google's Voice service starting today. Google Voice is Google's next novel service that allows managing several phone numbers with one unique number and also converts voicemails to emails. The invite-only registration has been open to all. However, the service is not available to folks outside U.S.

Vincent Paquet, senior product manager of Google Voice, told CNET that all Google Voice users who own Android or BlackBerry handsets would be able to user the service directly from their handsets today onwards. However, iPhone owners will have to wait for the iPhone version of Google Voice, which is being held for unknown reasons.

Google Voice was introduced in March this year and recently, Google was reported for booking a million numbers for this service. A single Google Voice number allows users to use a single number in lieu of their home, work or cell phone numbers and also get voicemails messages in form of text transcripts in mail.

Android based handset owners will be able to download the Google Voice App from Marketplace. BlackBerry owners will have to get the app from Google instead of their App World.

On number portability, Paquet noted that their experience hasn't been quite up to Google's standards and has been limited to carrier-to-carrier ports.
