city02 63 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 A recent study on network quality for mobile services, conducted by Indian Marketing Research Bureau (IMRB), has adjudged Reliance Infocomm as the best among the basic telecom service providers in India. The research objective was to assess the quality of services of different GSM and CDMA based mobile networks on key parameters like Data Throughput, Service Availability, Voice Quality, RSSI and Call Completion.The Research methodology involved drive tests across various routes, both indoors and outdoors, on an average sample of 50-60 outgoing calls made to the test numbers of an operator. Rankings based on scores on a scale of 1 to 6 are as follows: Operator Mean RankReliance 1.1 Tata 2.2 Bharti 2.5 Idea 2.5 Hutch 3.1 BSNL 4.2 Reliance Infocomm has emerged as a clear leader in the ranking analysis.In the overall performance on Data Throughput, i.e. download speed in kbps, Infocomm's performance was at 6.4 kbps vis-รก-vis Hutch's 2.1 kbps. Chennai led all other centers with thirteen kbps download speed, with Delhi scoring at 3.7 kbps. Incidentally, Chennai topped on Data Thorughput for Hutch too with download speed of 3.3 kbps. Among 'A' Circles, Gujarat excelled others with an average of 6.2 kbps. The Service Availability parameter takes into reckoning the co-existence of adequate signal strength and voice quality. On these fronts also, Reliance came a topper. A noteworthy feature on service availability is that the performance of CDMA operators is much better than their GSM counterparts. Here too, Chennai maintained its number one position among metros, while Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh jointly shared the top honors among 'A' Circles. For Tata Teleservices, Delhi and Gujarat led on the performance of service availability while Mumbai came way below. On Voice Quality, Reliance rose above the rest to reign supreme with Tata Teleservices and Idea coming at the second and third positions, respectively. Amongst Reliance operators, Chennai and Rajasthan are the leaders on voice quality. For Tata Teleservices, Delhi and Gujarat are the leaders on voice quality. On overall performance on power received by handsets, Reliance Infocomm, Tata Indicom and Airtel were pronounced best with each scoring 100 per cent. All six key p l a y e r s g o t 1 0 0 p e r c e n t f o r handoff/handover success rates.
