Which Credit Card To Go For?

Recommended Posts

I have a HDFC platinum plus credit card, which was upgraded from Gold credit card. I felt all great that now I have a platinum CC! But when I checked the rewards on other cards, my enthusiasm didn't last long. Now I am on the lookout for a CC that offers following features

1. Lifetime free (absolutely no fees at all)

2. 5% Cashback (my lady friend's Women Gold Credit card had this 5% cashback on everything)

3. I don't mind heavy interest rate, as I pay the bills very regularly, and never draw money against the credit.

So guys, any help?

ICICI & Citi Bank are best.

In ICICI you can redeem reward points with IMINT. With Citi you can adjust reward points against your Citi Bill or Gift Mate.

In terms of card servicing, Stan Chart has the poorest track record with maximum complaints of incorrect service charges, bill not getting delivered in time, etc.

As for ICICI, the IMINT program gives practically very little in terms of effective % of return.

Citibank Cashback card offers cashback, but only at 1/2 %, and its not free.

Deutche Bank Gold card is free and offers cash back with varying % depending on the transaction type, but it has limited branches.

ABN Amro offers effective 2% cashback (points adjusted against hotel bills/air/train ticket purchase)but is again not free.

SBI cards are issued by SBICSL (a joint-venture) and not SBI. Hence, SBI credit cards are not covered by the Banking Ombudsman mechanism for grievance settlement. A loop-hole that is often used by SBICSL to give its customers a raw deal.

Stan Chart Titanium offers 5% on Fuel & Telecom expenses.. others 1%.

Works well for me, although it has a cap of max cash-back upto 500 per month.

Citibank has introduced Super Cash-Back Titanium Card which is interesting but charges 500 per year.

I have used/am using a no. of different cc like, standard chartered, citibank, sbi, diners etc., but I feel it is the sbi card which is most transparent and trouble free with no hidden charges or wrong billings; i started with low limits (about 20k) but have gradually increased it multifold based on my purchase history with no charges...

FOR SBI or any other credit card......

you can call to their respective customer care to get your annual fee or annual charges waived...

over all SBI card is good..but we cannot recharge Reliance prepaid from sbi card

where as in ICICI you can recharge any prepaid mobile.....that is the only disadvantage i found with sbi ...

Huge NPA in this segment !

Due to these NPA, honest customers are getting extra burden of not getting good cash back or good reward schemes.

Fully agree...

ICICI has even stopped EMI conversion. Very bad indeed. I have been using this card for past 3 yrs nw and since they hav stopped EMI conversion, it really feels that nw my shopping is restricted.

I guess now a days, all new issued cards charge annual fee from the next year. However, I found that Kotak cards are still free for life.

Currently, I am using hdfc, hsbc and manhattan but none give cash back. Only problem with HSBC is that they give fuel surcharge waiver in the next statement and sometimes they forget and then give it after two months. In this process, I've found that you loose track of it and effectively you loose on fuel surcharge waiver. HDFC and Manhattan has honest billing.

I have manhattan card but they are asking 999 Rs. to upgrade to platinum card.

I am planning for Kotak's trump card (gold card) because they are giving 10% cash back on movies, dining and no fees on irctc.

I second Mobile Fan for the Kotak's Trump Card

Snapshot of benefits.

Flat 10% cash back on all restaurants and Cinema Halls

No fuel surcharge and no railway surcharge.

All purchases above 5000, break into 3 months EMI at 0%, no fees

No Annual Fee :-)
