Bsnl Introduces Promotional 3g Tariffs

Recommended Posts

BSNL has introduced promotional 3G tariff which is quite attractive. The features are as follows:

1. One single prepaid plan

2. Video and voice call rate is 30p/min both local and STD

3. Data usage rate 1paisa/10kb (no unlimited plan though and it is not sure whether 1paisa will be charged for 1kilo bits or kilo bytes. If it is kilo bits, then not cheap)

4. 25 MB data usage and 50 video calls free.

BSNL on its promotion is saying that it is cheaper than 2G. Then why on Earth they are not reducing the 2G rates?

VERY GOOD QUESTION sir :rofl_200: ... And the answer is they need MORE customers for 3G network than 2G network... Another reason is 3G coverage is still a issue and so they have to give nice offers to attract customers....

Almost all Dell laptops have the SIM slot. but only a few have the internal HSDPA modem. If its there, it can be seen in the device manager.

Video calls will involve data also isnt it??? Voice tariff for video call may be 30p/min for local onnet.. But video transfer will involve data and hence will be costly if charged seperately..

Any idea if data involved for video calls will be charged extra or is that 30p all inclusive??

Today Times of India featured the news of introduction of new tariff of video calls @ 30p/min in Chennai. However, the STD video calls are 50p/min contrary to the advt in BSNL's site. The article goes as under:

FAST AND CHEAP

BSNL launches video calls at 30p/min

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Chennai: Even as private telecom operators are slugging it out in the ongoing ‘pricing strategy’, state-run telecom operator BSNL seems to have pushed the limits of the ‘first mover’ advantage of rolling out 3G services. The company launched an extremely aggressive pricing of 30 paise per minute for local and 50 paise for STD video calls, making it as cheap as the current pricing existing in the market.

BSNL’s 3G service, launched in Chennai on Friday evening, will be available on both pre-paid and post-paid connections. 3G will make available other facilities like mobile live TV and high-speed internet with download speeds up to 3.6 mbps. Customers will be able to watch 24 television channels at present. BSNL plans to add other facilities like video streaming and video-on-demand soon.

With BSNL offering these services at such low rates through a ‘promotional plan’ for a period of one year, the 3G pricing strategy too looks to have been set. The 3G spectrum auctions is set to take place this fiscal.

“We expect one lakh customers to subscribe to our 3G service in a month-and-half,” A Subramanian, chief general manager, BSNL, Chennai, said during the launch of the service. BSNL has already rolled out 3G in about 240 cities and towns in India.

MTNL Delhi has also launched similar services but with higher call rates of Local MTNL 20p, Local others 50p and STD 75p

The rates are applicable for lifetime validity.

I tested 3G Data Plan on Micromax USB Modem here in Meerut today. Cost of Modem is 3800/- inclusive of BSNL 3G connection and sim free. Data Plan Charges - http://www.bsnl.in/s...3G_files/3g.htm

But I checked and found that actual speed coming on 3G SIM was not more than 36kbps (equivalent to say 300Kbps connection).... LOL and they call it 3.6Mbps 3G... really laughable.... then I was suggested to test normal 2G SIM on the same modem on 230/- unlimited GPRS Plan and guess what.... surprise, surprise.... I got a speed of 30kbps (256 Kbps connection).... and same portability and convenience.... (Note: These are actual download speeds I got when downloading a test file from a fast server)

Now, I am planning to buy a 3G mini PCI Modem for my laptop and insert the sim into it as an always on and connected laptop... I am getting a Sierra 3G HSDPA WWAN mini PCI Modem for 1500/- on Ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/...=STRK:MEBIDX:IT ) and the 2G Data SIM for about 300/-; Add to it the 230/- per month unlimited data plan on prepaid ( http://www.bsnl.co.i...f_excel_pre.htm ) whereas the same Unlimited Plan on 3G is for 2999/- and I am hooked to at least a 256Kbps unlimited connection thats always on.... just an idea...
