deepu 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2004 (edited) The best as far as i know in both reliablility and speed is bittorrent. Not one of the above tools can come any where near to this new tool.... Visit http://www.torrentreactor.net/index.php to see the number of downloads available. ABC [Yet Another Bittorrent Client] is a good client for downloading .torrent files. visit http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/ to download ABC [Yet Another Bittorrent Client] Edited October 25, 2004 by deepu_vk
rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted October 25, 2004 Bittorrent is a GREAT p2p.... a LOT of hard-to-find stuff are available as torrents...speeds are NOT that great tho... AFAIK, www.supernova.org is THE best site for torrents.... there r quite a few Bittorrent clients.....im using one "Azureus"...my personal favourite...has a load of options/stats....AND ITS OPEN-SOURCE... needs Java RE... check out www.azureus.sourceforge.net/ Cheers

Sanay 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2004 I found Azureus (torrent downloader) the best. I download many movies and lots of stuff through it. Its much faster and user-freindly. For exact stats: At present I have just been downloading 1.37 GB movie and its been around 62 hours and only about 120 MB remaining.
Shabz 8 Report post Posted October 25, 2004 supernova.org is for members only and I like bittorrent as it is good to download i use torrentstorm for it tried azureus but could not make it work
rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted October 25, 2004 shaboo, u have Java Runtime Environment right ? Azureus needs that.... and i guess i gotta correct myself - the speeds r pretty good with azureus - when(and only when) im d/ling with azureus, the "session thoroughput" in the rconnect dialer (not the graph) gets as high as 95kbps !! never seen anyother d/l tool utilize the available bandwidth this effeciently
harsh 1 Report post Posted October 25, 2004 for finding rare things, and easy searching any item , best network is edonkey/emule/overnet/shareazza they are undisputedly champions in file finding. its so east to find a file. although its slower comparing to bittorrent. but in bittorrent, you are on the seeders mercy, it takes long to find latest release in bittorrent, unline ed2k networks. ive been using ed2k network since almost 1 and a half years now. ive tried and researched bt and dc and other networks throughly. but at the end, edk2 rules. Utsav 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2004 May sound stupid! But can any1 elaborate what a P2P network is and how is it beneficial for us?
tanveer 59 Report post Posted October 25, 2004 well here is a simple definition, P2P means Peer-to-peer: Electronic file swapping systems that allow users to share files, computing capabilities, networks, bandwidth and storage. u can find more on this page http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&oi=...re&q=define:P2P
rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted October 26, 2004 the cool part of p2p technology is this - since the moviez/aapz are NOT uploaded to any one particular sever(its all in the home pcs of 'peers' like u & me) - copyright infringment rules gets ...er...diluted.... thats y so many movies are available on p2p - this would be out&out illegal if the movie was uploaded to any one server/website BTW, azureus can sorta 'take-over' from torents half-downloaded by OTHER bittorrent clients ! Ganesh 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2004 Yeah.one can import part files
Utsav 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2004 So if I wish to get some files from Ganesh's PC that's P2P? Can I download his files to my PC? At the time of downloading/viewing/listening to the files stored on some other user's PC, he also need to be connected to the net, right?
rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted October 26, 2004 So if I wish to get some files from Ganesh's PC that's P2P? Can I download his files to my PC? At the time of downloading/viewing/listening to the files stored on some other user's  PC, he also need to be connected to the net, right? yes utsav, that would be p2p yes u can d/l his files to ur pc provided ganesh is uploading them and yes, By Definition ur peer(ganesh) has to be online and uploading the concerned file at the same time ...ppl who r u/L ing any such files are the "Seeders"...higher the number of seeders, faster the d/l somewhere in between u two is the "tracker" thro which we d/l and u/l...sorta bridge connecting the peers
Ganesh 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 what i meant for part file is that you can exchange part files between different softwares that uses ed2k links.like one can import part files form edonkey to emule. p2p is something like one to one file sharing through a server topology. Utsav 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 Hi rEdshiFt, Can u tell me if I can d/l files in parts as we do using DAP?
rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 (edited) not like in DAP...but something like that CAN BE DONE in Azureus(not in any other bittorrent client, i think) this "part download" thing works ONLY if the file ur d/l ing has many sub-files(so to speak)...it probably WONT work when ur dowloading a movie(which probably has a single large file)... it works like this - for instance, the 2GB 'samurai jack' file i was d/l ing had ten seperate episodes(sub-files).To download only the episodes i want, i had to do this - in the 'files' tab of the currently active torrent, choose the file(s) u DONT want to download, right-click on them and check 'do not download' under the 'set priority'...this way, u can d/l only the parts u want. ONE MAJOR THING IS - Azureus takes up the entire disk-space of the d/l as soon as the torrent STARTS...ur gonna need a LOT of hard disk space...choosing the 'Enable incremental file creation' instead of 'Allocate and zero new files on creation' in the configuration>files might help a little keep in touch Edited October 28, 2004 by rEdshiFt
tanveer 59 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 where can i get Azureus from. i tried to download it from download.com but it did not run. can u provide mem a link?
rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 dude pls do not download it from any 3rd party sites..they get laced with trojans.... here's the Official webpage http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ U can also Download thro the same site, the Latest Java JRE that is required for azureus to run...if u dont have java runtime environment installed in ur pc, Azureus will not work cheers
