Bharti Airtel Cuts Mobile Roaming Charges

Recommended Posts

Bharti Airtel, top mobile operator, said on Friday it had launched a new

bill plan that would reduce mobile roaming rates by

nearly 60 per cent.

Bharti Airtel, which accounts for more than 23 per cent of mobile users in the world's fastest-growing market, has in recent months lagged smaller rivals in monthly subscriber

additions due to a price war in the industry.

Having followed others in the one paisa per second billing tariff, market leader Bharti Airtel is now taking the battle further on to the roaming turf.

“Our first endeavour has always been to offer competitively superior, differentiated service to all Airtel customers. Recent research has shown that customers need benefits while travelling and are not satisfied with just local calling benefits. Airtel is uniquely poised to be able to meet this need because of its seamless, formidable network presence across India and On-Net strategy. We are delighted to bring Airtel Turbo to customers for them to be able to enjoy the Airtel service in a boundary less manner,” says Atul Bindal, President, Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel Ltd.

The Airtel Turbo plan offers incoming calls while on roaming for 60 paise per minute. For local and STD calls on roaming to Airtel connections the charges will be 60 paise per minute. Call made to other networks while on roaming will be charged 80 paise per minute.

Airtel claims the new tariff results in 60% saving for its subscribers when compared to tariffs offered by rival operators and other plans on offer.

For Airtel prepaid subscribers, the plan is available for Rs 98 voucher which comes with a validity of one year. The plan is also offer on postpaid mode.

Great but forced move.

Airtel is feeling the heat expecially its losing even to Vodafone.

I always felt only Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance can play with roaming charges since they've pan-India n/w.

Airtel should have done this earlier.

Its very difficult for others(like TATA docomo, MTS, Idea & Aircel) to follow since they don't have pan-India n/w.

Obviously TATA indicom, BSNL & MTNL will follow soon.

vodafone will come up with same roaming tariff, but with different name and different ad for the scheme :rofl_200: ...

IDEA will also come again with Airtel's Idea and exclaim itself as "What an excellent Idea, SirJi" tag... :Contento:

BSNL may not come with this scheme :NOTriste: , because it doesnt care about what is going around, or dont know what to do with its excellent  55+ years old marketing team members... :Riendo:

TataIndicom and Docomo may also follow... But not so sure... :Equivocado:

Now the gap between Reliance Simple and the tariff of others operators are diminished anyway... :winko:

except for great customer care, airtel has nothing else to offer. The day MNP comes into force, I will switch to reliance GSM. I already have CDMA on reliance. Reliance is the best service provider in terms of network quality and simple and cost effective plans. Airtel knows how to milk their customers by providing excellent customer service.

well this plan is just to prevent the Airtel customers from moving over to Rcom due to simple plans. Not with the aim of gathering more customers.

I remember Sunil Mittal telling the press regarding possible reduction of rates when Reliance launched operation in 2003 "Bakri ko to halal hona hi parega, lekin kisto me". (The goat has no other option but to get slaughtered, but in instalments).

Airtel seems to be still following the same principles in 2009.

SMS Local Re.1 and National Rs.1.5 rofl_200.gif

http://airtel.in/turboplan/

No my friend, that is actually SMS tariff in home circle (PREPAID)... They didnt mention about ROAMING SMS tariffs anywhere (not even in FAQ sections), thatz why I am asking...

===========================================================================

CATCH in these roaming tariff, if you select Airtel-TURBO plan...

First Prepaid:-

1) Your life-time validity will get cancelled and shrunk to one year validity...

2) After that one year, you have to recharge with validity coupons to extend this offer... :rofl_200:

3) NO FULL TALK-TIME offer for this cr@ppy plan... :Riendo:

4) On subscrining to this plan, your SMS charges are Rs1.00 and Rs1.50 for Local and National SMS...

5) NO SPECIAL Tariff Vouchers can be joined, say A-A 10p for eg... :Contento: (Thank GOD you can join SMS packs with one month validity at-least)

Now for Postpaid plans:-

1) NO CUG POSSIBLE with this great heap of $hit plan...

2) 149 FREE LOCAL calls only with 249 plan thatz 85-90Rs FREE only...

3) 10500 sec FREE for 299 plan thatz 120-126Rs FREE only...

4) FREE 200 SMS are for Local and in home use only... SMS charges in roaming NOT YET SHOWN...

5) You cannot add any useful addon pack with these plans...

6) FOR all other plans, the roaming charges are Rs1.0/Rs1.0/Rs1.5 for In/Out Local/Out STD...

SOURCE :- Here

Airtel has some good local plans like 600 FREE mins for Rs249 rent plan with FREE CUG... But in those plans, you wont get roaming benefits and for these two roaming plans, you wont get CUG and more FREE call benefits...

Guess about AnnualRentalPlan users and Corporate customers with CUG facility... :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200:

-------------------------------------

When comparing Reliance's 99Rs rent postpaid plan, these plans are :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200:

GSM lobby is made by the full time robbers. they have nothing great to offer. no doubt Reliance schemes are far far better then any GSM operators. as far as customer care is concerned reliance has improved it a lot.

but because of reliance GSM customers are getting atleast some benifits

OFFTOPIC

I remember you had coverage issues with Reliance, both CDMA and GSM. Has the situation improved?

Recently i read in another thread that Reliance has started improving their coverage on fast track now. Just wanted to confirm if anything material is happening on that front..

MTNL can never join such tariff race dear.It does not operate outside delhi and bombay.it does not have any network outside these two metros. and BSNL may be a PSU but that does not mean it can simply piggy back on BSNL's infrastructure without paying for it. You may wonder local outgoing calls are still charged at Re.1/ min on the base tariff plan of MTNL And probably now its the only service provider which does not offer per sec billing.

MTNL offers unlimited local calls to own network, both Mobile and Landline, at very reasonable rates, as one of the plans. Given that still most landlines are of MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai, it works out nicely for most business people. Which is one of the primary reasons people still go for it.
