B R SHIVANANDA 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2009 NEW DELHI: Mobile player Tata Docomo on Sunday launched per second billing for roaming across the country to take on rival Airtel, which announced a major cut in roaming charges last week. The company introduced 1 paisa per second for all incoming and outgoing local and STD calls, to any network, to mobile or landline phones, it said in a statement. At the moment operators follow per minute roaming rates and charges vary depending on location and network. The move would intensify the tariff war among the mobile companies on this new turf. Tata DoCoMo had earlier offered the one paisa per second scheme for local and STD calls which was later followed by other operators to grab customers. "We are delighted to announce yet another industry defying offer to our subscribers-- a transparent and pack-free roaming tariff plan of 1 paisa per second for all incoming and outgoing call, both local and long distance, to all network and types of phones (mobile or landline)," Tata Docomo President Deepak Gulati said. The company is gearing up to roll out pan-India GSM services this year, the new roaming scheme would be available across the country, Tata Docomo said. "When a subscriber is roaming most telecom operators in India charge a minimum of 50-60 paise per minute, even then the call duration is less than a minute. Under the Tata Docomo roaming offer, subscribers will be charged only for what he or she uses-- at 1 paise per second," Gulati added. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/5257404.cms

srk006 21 Report post Posted November 22, 2009 well .. that's good but pay per sec in roaming was pioneered by reliance.

KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted November 22, 2009 (edited) Well 1p/sec in roaming seems to be a copy of Reliance... But, Reliance offers this with a special recharge for ONE YEAR TARIFF VALIDITY ONLY and TATA giving lifetime validity to this scheme and its DEFAULT ROAMING TARIFF for all PREPAID/POSTPAID customers without any special recharge... Tata (both Indicom and Docomo) ROCKS.... :signthankspin: And I got yet another GOOD reason for neglecting my BSNL postpaid connection... MOBILE FAN 42 Report post Posted November 23, 2009 but Reliance also offers 50p/min in roaming. When Docomo will go to that level ? actually the war will start once again when the incoming in roaming will be freed by a provider.
vvinayakpai 26 Report post Posted November 23, 2009 (edited) Tata Docomo is really taking the competition on to the existing players. This is going to have a murderous effect on smaller regional players like S-Tel, which to the best of my memory is planning to operate only in the north eastern states. It was really a wise decision by Spice to get out of the fray by seeling its business to Idea at a decent premium to current telecom valuations. Now i think all players will be forced to copy Tata Docomo and offer lietime validity on tariff of per second billing as well. Only once MNP is implemented, will we know how things are going to turn out in the telecom industry. And I must say Tata docomo is managing it well. Because they are operating with 4.4Mhz of spectrum and I have not heard of any congestion problems as yet from any of the circles. Mght be the DOCOMO technology effect Edited November 23, 2009 by vvinayakpai
manishag 17 Report post Posted November 23, 2009 i'll really appreciate the tata's move. only CDMA lobby(with there GSM wings) is coming up something good for customers. Now tata and Relaince both of them have good products offerings for the customers and they are working on the network coverage too. for tata only drawback is the CDMA network and I have heard that they have started improving the CDMA network too. and as far as reliance is concerned they have really good network as compared to other GSM operators and they have improved the customer care too. GSM lobby is still sleeping. they are just willing to spend money on the marketing but they are not willing to spend a single penny for the customers. Himanshu Singh 19 Report post Posted November 23, 2009 Its good that DoCoMO has launched per sec billing for roaming as well. But contrary to their claims, they are not the pioneers in this. Reliance made it simple by launching everything per sec at one go unlike docomo which first came with per sec billing for home circle and then while in roaming. Also DoCoMo would need time to go pan India while Reliance already is. Strangely I dont find Tata cdma competing with Reliance CDMA. HAVE TATA GIVEN UP ON CDMA AFTER 10 MINS CALL OFFER? sougatadc 358 Report post Posted November 23, 2009 yes Now Docomo Follow Reliance. Though a one-paisa-per second tariff translates into 60 paise per minute and so, works out to be costlier than a 50-paise-per-minute tariff, in actual, it will prove more economical. This is because in a 50-paise-per-minute plan, one has to pay 50 paise even if a call is for 20 seconds. Similarly, if one makes a call for 70 seconds, he will have to pay for two calls. But in the case of a pay-per second plan, one has to pay for the duration of the call.
