Article On Mobile Providers In India

Recommended Posts

Reliance has been squeezing the juice out of a company called Zydus Cadilla. The company recently returned 2,200 billing phones to Reliance as they found out that it had been cheating on the bills.
That's natural. But how do they manage to give such offers?
The scheme was provided by a service provider called Bell, in an attempt to take over the market share of a company called Fido. Bell announced that anyone who got in their old Fido phone would get a Sanyo 8100 (that's a flip top camera phone) free with a year's service free. (You pay 7 dollars a month as access fee, which works out to Rs. 259; close to what I pay Orange for my prepaid.)

After a year its 45 dollars a month (Canadian) for 700 daytime minutes and free evenings and weekends. Evenings are 8 pm to 6 am so it's almost unlimited for a cost of Rs. 1, 650.

Well that's the way operators treat consumers half way around the globe.

How do they run their companies even after giving away their services for free?
