Voda, Chennai is offering 22,500 SMS local and National at Rs 61 per month. This works out to 750 per day, but you won't lose if you do not send any SMS for 1 day, you can use up the entire 22,500 on the 30th day also. Not sure about RCOM's SMS fundas.

Plus no blackout days and also applicable while roaming. Whereas in Voda, you will still pay the normal roaming rates if you are on their own network and if by chance you are on other network while roaming, 3.45 is what you pay for a SMS. Not sure about RGSM's onnet and offnet SMS fundas, it might be the same.

Anyway, a good move by Voda. Double the profit of RCOM. And yet retain its base. People would not mind paying more to retain their number and also RCDMA SMS is a pain in the you-know-where.

I agree and I commented much the same elsewhere in this forum that Vodafone might be able to make profits out of this sms scheme while same cant be said for Rcomm.

While Rcomm has reduced its sms tariff to unbelievable levels, other companies are responding in a SUSTAINABLE way.

Vodafone has done it. Even Aircel has made the following chaneges in its existing sms packs for various denominations for Delhi-NCR:

Rs.9 pack now offers 100 local.national sms, previously it was only 50.

Rs.19 pack now offers 250 local/national sms, previoulsy it was 100.

Rs.49 pack now offers 1000 local/national sms, previously it was 250.

Not a big deal, I am sure, but big enough to prevent customers from going away I guess. And thats the policy other GSM companies are going to follow. They would cut prices to retain their customers but not to as low as Rcomm.

You are right... The GSM cos are trying their level best to retain their existing customers.. But these offers cant stop them after MNP.. I think thats the thing in mind of RCom, behind the unbelievable offers... :SI:

One thing we have to note also is only RCom, not even docomo is offering SMS FREE/1p while roaming..
