mgdelhi 192 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 Apple has unveiled the iPad, its new tablet computer, which is the size of a standard children's slate and which does not have a keyboard or mouse but relies on a touchscreen. "Using this thing is remarkable - it's so much more intimate than a laptop, and it's so much more capable than a smartphone," Steve Jobs, Apple chairman said, releasing the product. The iPad appears to be taking on PC-and Linux-based netbooks while combing the best of all the iPhone and earlier Apple products has provided. The aluminium-clad rectangular unit is 0.5 inches thick, with a 9.7-inch screen, weighing 1.5 pounds, and using the 1GHz Apple A4 chip and 16 to 64 GB in flash storage. The price start at $499 for the 16 GB version without 3G, and the most expensive 64 GB model, with 3G, will cost $829. It is WiFi-capable (802.11), have 3G standards, and can be used to connect to other tablets for gaming. It can also be accessed through Bluetooth technology. It also has a dock to attach an external keyboard, making it essentially a monitor that you can also access directly. The battery lasts 10 hours in the iBook mode, but, according to Jason Calacanis, a web personality who reportedly reviewed the product, said gaming draws a lot more juice. It does not have a camera, though. Among other things, senior Apple executive Phil Schiller showed off iWorks, an office suite specialized for the iPad. One of the strongest features is a book app, iBook, a smoother answer to the Kindle that provides more options than even smartphone apps like textonphone do. There's the iPhoto, which allows for simple browsing of pictures. The 3G service, from AT&T, costs 14.99 for up to 250 MB, and 29.99 for unlimited data. There are no contracts, given that the charges are prepaid. International deals are to be in place by June. But smartphone users like Tiwari, who get most of the features in their iPhones and iTouches, can do without the added frills in an unwieldy package. Tiwari, an IT specialist from New York, says the product does not make sense "if you have an iPhone, iTouch, and are not an avid reader." Besides, he feels, there is not even a camera to redeem it. "It is good for the publication industry that has been suffering - like magazines, and daily and weekly newspapers," he felt, admitting that it could be more popular than netbooks "because those who have netbooks can have this – with 3G and all." ::Hitesh:: 1,763 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 As alway Apple is making bricks and naming them with fancy names. Why i am saying this ? 1) iPad can not do multitasking , almost all smart phones do this. 2) iPad isn't going to support custom apps. you can't run firefox, chrome etc. on it. 3) IPad dose not support full WWW, it dont have flash support in it. 4) IPad dont have any display output, NO VGA, NO HDMI, if you want to give presentation thru it ? NO YOU CAN'T. 5) No Expandable memory slots, even if i have to copy some photos from my memory card to iPad ? NO YOU CAN'T 6) No Camera in build, After spending more than 40K on it, its not even close to my smart phone.

MVP 3 Report post Posted January 30, 2010 Why The iPad Won't Work for India You sound like a hypocrite. From another post there are always some people who dont wanto to buy few devices , and they will do all sorts of findings and googling to get negative points abt that and then concile themselves for not buying product i give same advise to all , first use a handset then comment if its good or bad sitting in front of compuer screen and reading a site /blog wont give proper view agreed... ::Hitesh:: 1,763 Report post Posted January 30, 2010 ^^^ I agree with Dr's view, If the features are not working the way we want that is different. what about features require ? But nonavailability for require features ? that is the main point here.
::Hitesh:: 1,763 Report post Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) Apple's iPad dont have trademark, they are going for TabletMAC !! Fujitsu applied for the "iPad" mark in 2003, specifically covering handheld devices used in retail. (The Fujitsu iPad is a $2,000 Windows CE point-of-sale device.) Along the way, the application got bogged down because a company called Mag-Tek had already registered IPAD for its line of PIN-entry keypads, and Fujitsu's application was listed as "abandoned" in April of 2009. The notice of abandonment apparently woke someone at Fujitsu up, because the company then asked the Trademark Office to re-open the application, arguing that Mag-Tek's IPAD had nothing to do with the Fujitsu iPad. The USPTO agreed, re-opened the application, and the process continued until September, when the iPad application was published so other trademark holders could oppose registration. That's when Apple signaled that it wasn't so happy about things -- and filed its own "iPad" trademark application using a shell company called "IP Application Development." Phew -- still with us? That leaves us at now, with Mag-Tek selling the IPAD under a valid, registered trademark, Fujitsu selling an iPad with a pending trademark application, and Apple ****ing all the air out of the room with the launch of the iPad and no US trademark at all. ::Hitesh:: 1,763 Report post Posted February 2, 2010 (edited) Is Apple Already Planning the iPad 2? A recent discovery by Mission Repair has sparked rumors that Apple is already planning the second iteration of its iPad tablet. Tons and tons of sites have made a point of listing all the features missing from the iPad. Among them was a forward facing camera. With no camera present at all, many tech fans wondered what Apple was thinking not including either a forward facing camera or a more traditionally located camera on the back of the device. It seems that in leaving the camera out, Apple was just being Apple. That is, the company left it out of the first device because they'll likely include the camera in an updated model in the future. Mission Repair recently received a box of iPad parts and notice that the metal, internal frames had a space that looked suspiciously camera-sized. The lads grabbed a standard webcam from a Unibody MacBook and lo and behold, it fit into the mysterious space in the frame like a hand in a glove.
