Buy Office 2007, Get Office 2010 For Free?

Recommended Posts

Hold off for a bit before buying Office 2007 -- Microsoft should announce a free upgrade offer starting in March.

Just as how Microsoft gave late Windows Vista buyers an (almost) free upgrade path the Windows 7, it appears that the same will apply to those picking up Office 2007 in the months leading up to the release of Office 2010.

Ars Technica caught a cached copy of a bulletin posted on a Microsoft U.S. Partner Community website that specifies that customers who purchase and activate a copy of Office 2007, with or without a new PC, from an authorized reseller between March 5, 2010 and September 30, 2010 qualify for the promotion.

Those who satisfy the qualifications must request his or her free Office 2010 product by October 31, 2010 using an activated Office 2007 Product Key and a dated sales receipt.

Although this information is no longer available on the partner website, we suspect that the deal is real. Microsoft often makes these sort of "technology guarantees" and this information leak is likely just a case of the company revealing plans with its partners before making a formal announcement to the public. After all, letting this information out this soon could potentially halt all Office 2007 sales for the next month.

Here is the provided image regarding the free upgrade path:

MS doing this for long time. whenever you buy license copy of any MS product, ask for SA (I guess - Software Assurance). SA allows free upgrade to next version. the price is very marginally higher.

^^

The reason is that they have made the prices too high.

Don't you buy legal office if it is priced @ round 2k-3k ?

NO , not even at that rate :P

because if i am getting at free then why to buy !

this is the basic mentality of most of the Indian.

by the way i have license copy of win vista, antivirus, on my system.

and i try to use most of opensource like open office, mozilla, etc etc

If you are earning from it, that is different,

Even it is high for both enterprise and home users.

I don't use MS Office on my home laptop, don't see much use for it. Open Office does the trick. Plus not sure if I have ever opened anything besides a simple word doc or a simple spreadsheet (nothing that OO cannot handle) on the home laptop.

How about you guys, do you see much use of the MS Office suite on the home PC?

I have to agree that given the right price, I wouldn't mind paying for it - rather than use a pirated copy - if there is some use for it.

Office laptop obviously came loaded with the professional version.

if you even buy genuine copies of bare min. softwares like

1. windows os (XP or win 7)

2. Office pro or home edition

3. winrar

4. antivirus

then also the cost will be same, if not more that of PC cost. in such scenario it does not make sense for using originals. besides, MS, is also interested in large corp users rather than individuals. they know that they can pay and also provide good discount on bulk purchase.

i know, my friend is working in HP, US, he gets office for mere US$15.. yes you got it right. HP has tie up and its MS big customer so deal is for all HP employees.
