deepu 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2004 Also POP and IMAP are mail protocols. Whats it got to do with space? you can see the diff between POP and IMAP in this link http://www.imap.org/imap.vs.pop.brief.html
iiii_pretender_iiii 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2004 Gmail doesn't currently support IMAP access. As part of our ongoing commitment to give our users easy access to their email, we have introduced POP access. We look forward to announcing more features as they become available.http://gmail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=10339 Actually they are both mail protocols which pretty much do the same thing. For now im satisfied with this. Will move over as and when they start supporting.
gadget_monk 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2004 IMAP on gmail is not very useful bcoz u cannot create folders. you have a fixed number of folders - inbox, sent and archives. Everything else is managed by labels.
iiii_pretender_iiii 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2004 Yea, you're right monk. I miss the folders creation facility like in yahoo. Hope gmail includes that too...
anujit 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2004 I got my pop access from Gmail today - and boy do they use the wierdest ports! And you don't need folders in gmail - USE LABELS! the best part about labels is that you can give a message multiple labels! something you cant do with folders... i.e. you can only put one mail in one folder.... I think M$ is trying to do something similar with the Longhorn File System or should I say the former-to-be Longhorn file system!

anujit 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 Of course the biggest problem is - NO IMAP SUPPORT! I got hundreds of mail in my outbox and no way to download it directly through Gmail - except maybe use POPGOESGMAIL! And then again my labels are sure to get screwed! I'm keeping my stuff online! iiii_pretender_iiii 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 Yea, in a way, Labels are smarter than folders. anu, i dont know about this outbox thing. Must check it out... raccoon 53 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 I really wonder why port 465 dosen't like me...
deepu 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 May be some other program/spyware/virus might have blocked the port and may be using it. Or maybe your ISP might have blocked that port.
