Please guide the procedure to conect Desktop & Netbook for the purpose of sharing Broadband Connection & Files.

My BB Connection does not require any password.

Secondly, Is there any software to sync files between Desktop & Netbook.

Well greatestji

You Connect your broadband connection to the router and also you connect your Laptop and Desktop to the router .(this is thru cable connection).

now switch on your modem and PC and laptop and then Config as follows

On Desktop:

Click on your Start >> Control Panel >> Network Connections >> Local Are Connection Properties >> Click TCP/Ip >>Properties >>General Tab

Use The Following Ip Address:

Ip Address: 192.168.1.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

gateway: 192.168.1.1

DNS As 192.168.1.1 and Click Ok.

Now ON Laptop Same Settings But Change The IP Address to 192.168.1.3 And So On You Can add As Many PCs you Want.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For Network Sharing Put Both Laptop And Desktop in the Same Work group And Keep Files For Sharing by Right Click on Them

Sharing And Security >>Network Sharing >> Click Both the Boxes Restart And Done

Why dont you buy a wifi router? You cant have true portability with a netbook if you are going to have too many wires connected to it.

I agree with Tanveer 100% i have wifi + lan in my office so we have all pcs on LAN with internet and i connect my laptop in my cabin thru wifi thats the best thing :)

No wires No troubles....but when you buy a wifi dont forget to keep it secured by adding WEP or WPA Keys for access...

it can be done with bluetooth also with incoming connection or lan sharing. It is a trial & error method. Different bluetooth have different options. In some there are option to share lan. In some You have to activate the sharing of your broadband connection. I used it in past to connect my lapi to internet. Later I bought a WIFI router. The pc is to be used as server & lapi has to establish the connection.

Wifi Routers Also Acts As Switch And they are not as expensive

they Cost Jus About The Same

Cisco Wifi ADSL costs about 1750

Belkin is Xpensive but worth 2750

You also get iball switches/modems for 1500s range

so they cost jus about the same
