vb86 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2004 Nokia To Launch Over 10 CDMA Handsets Next Yr Tuesday November 16, 6:52 PM HONG KONG (Dow Jones)--Nokia Corp. (NOK), the world's largest mobile phone maker, expects to launch more than 10 handset models operating on code division multiple access technology in 2005, a senior executive said Tuesday. "It will be much higher than 10 (models next year). We have launched 10 models so far this year," Soren Jenry Petersen, Nokia's senior vice president for business development and strategy for mobile phones, told Dow Jones Newswires. Petersen was in Hong Kong for the 3G World Congress & Exhibition. Nokia, which first started making CDMA phones in 1997, has since produced 48 CDMA handset models and shipped 50 million CDMA phones. Petersen said Nokia has around 17 CDMA models currently available in the market. On Tuesday, Nokia introduced its 6235 and 6235i CDMA phones for the global market, which will be mass produced in the second quarter of 2005. He said Nokia aims to raise its share of the global CDMA handset market to 25% by end-2005, from the "upper teens" currently. "We are growing at a rate that is going to make that possible," he said. Petersen added Nokia expects the CDMA market to grow by more than 25% this year, faster than or at the same rate as growth in the overall mobile phone market. The faster growth trend in CDMA against the overall market will persist through 2008, he said.
