Greatest 55 Report post Posted March 24, 2010 Hi Friends, I am planning to get a BSNL Broadband connection for my home. I do not want the modem provided by them. And so I plan to buy one which also has wifi inbuilt in it. I plan to have 2-3 wifi routers inside the home, so that each of them connect to the 'base' modem/router which has the bb connection from bsnl.. This way my whole home is wifi enabled, and I can use it to connect to my lappy, my phone and also the PlayON HD player... I hope you understand.. So presently, suggest me modems (with app. price, if possible) which also has wifi connectivity in it.. Cheers
SumitVerma 187 Report post Posted March 24, 2010 (edited) I suggest go for Belkin. Think no further. http://www.belkin.com/in/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=478163 http://www.belkin.com/in/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=478055 They have listed MRP in there but you could get pretty good deals in market. Let me know if I could be of any help! And the best part is, they have a pretty good coverage. I'll confirm with my networking consultant and let you know about the coverage part, may I know how many floors do you have to access? dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted March 24, 2010 The basic WiFi modem provided by BSNL is of VERY GOOD quality and range... otherwise the ASUS WL 520 GU is a very good modem for your needs (as suggested by dJ to me) - http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180473919683&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
djain1989 16 Report post Posted March 24, 2010 Why not use only 1 modem along with 2-3 repeaters instead of 2-3 modems? I think this way you can get the same work done at pretty cheap price!
Greatest 55 Report post Posted March 24, 2010 @Sumit thanks man.. I feel belkin is good, but pricey also.. but if it gives excellant performance, then i might go for it. I have 2 floors, ground and first. Ground floor it has a 1800 sq. ft. space and first floor around 1900. There is a open space between both the floors, like 10 ft. x 15ft. in the middle of the complete floor. @Dhiraj, thanks mate.. will consider this for further info. @Deepak, pls share more info about 'repeaters', I have no idea of this. Thanks.
SumitVerma 187 Report post Posted March 24, 2010 I think 1 Router and One Repeater will do all the work. Let me get back at it tomorrow! Dont worry about the pricing at all! I will let you know about the best deals available here with me. If you could find a better deal at your place, well and good. If not, I will courier you! akg7091 4 Report post Posted March 24, 2010 Please avoid the cheaper belkin routers. They are some of the worst in the market and drop packets under medium to heavy load. Search on the net for reviews. I suggest you go for a buffalo or a dlink router, preferably 802.11n Also, look for router which has extended QOS support to help you configure rules for torrents, voip, webcam etc. A print server will be an added bonus
SumitVerma 187 Report post Posted March 24, 2010 ^ I am using Belkin from quite a long time now. Never found a single complaint whatsoever!
::Hitesh:: 1,763 Report post Posted March 24, 2010 i will also suggest buffalo, you can do following take default adsl modem from bsnl without wifi or buy a cheap one from market, buy one or two wifi switch (number will depending on your distance ) connect adsl to one wifi switch and pair 2nd wifi swich with 1st one. you will get full wifi with low investment. KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted March 25, 2010 Could you give the pricing too, I am also interested in this setup...
::Hitesh:: 1,763 Report post Posted March 25, 2010 if you want to keep the pricing low then use netgear wifi router comes around Rs1200-1500 only. you can connect 4 LAN connection to it, so you pc and bsnl modem can be fixed in 1st router. and 2nd one will work as extender. so cost will be less then 3000 if u have bsnl adsl modem. shanusmarty 29 Report post Posted December 12, 2011 hey! everyone i got Belkin Modem Wifi Router for my friend's BSNL BB connection.. but i m unable to configure it! the user name must be the phone number with two alphabets pre that,i.e. **512xxxxxx and he doesnt remember the password for it.. but the pathetic bsnl guy told him that it must b default "password".., we can't contact any customer care or cant get any help! wat to do ? thanks
sougatadc 358 Report post Posted December 21, 2011 ^^^ In most cases, they set the password as "password". It is the default practice. Try with it. Also check the phone number, it should start with a '2', it's BSNL's nationwide paradigm.
