Saurav 22 Report post Posted April 8, 2010 From last few days I am experiencing a problem with my desktop. After running a few hours it automatically shuts down (Immediate evethying stops). I tried by replacing Power Supply but still same problem. I opened one of the side cover of cabinet and then it works well. I think their is some heating problem with Motherboard. Kindly suggest a solution.
Arun 795 Report post Posted April 8, 2010 I opened one of the side cover of cabinet and then it works well. Looks like a heating problem. Try getting a suitable fan to fit inside your cabinet.

Kindly suggest a solution. Definaltely looks to me like a heating problem of the CPU Ypu can conform the same by going to the BIOS or by installing a software like SPEEDFAN to check the temperature of motherboard and processor...... Try using a blower or vaccum and clean the dust resting on the motherboard and Heatsink fan... i think this should fix the problem
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted April 9, 2010 ^ I had exact same problem with my desktop 2 days back; I disassembled my complete pc myself; and reached the conclusion that the CPU FAN was the culprit; Not, the cabinet fan but the CPU Fan. The heatsink of the CPU fan was clogged with dust. I disassembled the fan and also noted that 2 of the 4 clips securing it to the motherboard has also broken and it was NOT getting proper contact with the CPU. I went to the local assembler and got 2 new locks for the CPU Fan (20/- each), replaced the broken clips/locks, cleaned the Heatsink with air pressure completely, re-attached the CPU Fan properly securing it to CPU top so that it was in full contact with the CPU and VOILA the problem of shutdown vanished. In the process my PC got a full spring cleaning and is working as NEW... BTW, the shop vallahs had even recommended me changing the motherboard, the power supply, the ram etc. etc. LOL... JFYI... and the culprit turned out to be the good old CPU Fan. The PC is programmed to shutdown immediately when the CPU crosses a set temperature...

::Hitesh:: 1,763 Report post Posted April 9, 2010 ^^^ Technically both are correct, some time due to faulty ram or smps system may get automatically shutdown / restart . So if dust problem is not there, you need to take these steps for diagnostic of your problem.
Maulik.Parekh 34 Report post Posted April 9, 2010 There is a software to monitor CPU temp ; I am attaching here .. Monitor the temp for some time ; hotter chips dont last long !!! If there is a problem then remove the CPU fan & apply new heat sink. Remove the older one completely !!! CoreTemp(temperature monitoring).rar
