faizone 15 Report post Posted May 18, 2010 (edited) Oh.. thats news to me.. thanks Hitesh bhai for the enlightenment.. and for babies like me.. google search found this "The difference between CDMA and WCDMA in term of physical layer spreading is that in CDMA system signal is spread upto 1.25 MHz( I am not sure about actual value ) while in WCDMA signal is spread upto 5MHz band. Hence extra "W" meaning "wide" is used and hence called as WCDMA." Edited May 18, 2010 by faizone
igloo 1 Report post Posted May 18, 2010 (edited) wcdma is 3g version of gsm like evdo is 3g version of cdma. it works on cdma tech only(patent with qualcomm) however follows gsm standard of protocols. So every 3g phone manufacturer gives a fixed amt of royalty to qualcomm for every handset sold. Edited May 18, 2010 by igloo
santanu@impaq 16 Report post Posted May 22, 2010 WCDMA is primarily used for voice traffic in the 2.1 GHz Band by GSM operators.( even GSM pro do recognize that Code Division method is able to utilize spectrum more efficiently. ) For DATA currently HSDPA protocols are used in most part of the world. CDMA EVDO uses one full downlink carrier 1.25Mhz wide exclusively for carrying data, with various revisions enhancing data throughput. New Rev B combines 3 carriers of 1.25Mhz resulting in download speeds upto 9.3 mbps
