faizone 15 Report post Posted May 18, 2010 Source To start off l would like to bring to notice oft overlooked statutory hazard warnings issued by HDTV brands. This is how one of them poses itself: If you experience any of the following symptoms, immediately stop watching 3D pictures and consult a medical specialist: (1) altered vision; (2) lightheadedness; (3) dizziness; (4) involuntary movements such as eye or muscle twitching; (5) confusion; (6) nausea; (7) loss of awareness; (8) convulsions; (9) cramps; and/or (10) disorientation. Parents should monitor and ask their children about the above symptoms as children and teenagers may be more likely to experience these symptoms than adults. These symptoms sound like serious business, and the scary part is, that all media today, including our superb website, is riding the 3D bandwagon, but no one really talks about these hazards even though I have felt them myself so many times. Plus, these are not some generic health hazard like “don’t sit too close to the TV”, these are more like “try and not get blind”. There are more Health Hazards printed in 3D TV manuals for e.g. Viewing in 3D mode may cause disorientation for some viewers. DO NOT place your television near open stairwells, cables, balconies or other objects that may cause you to injure yourself. This one is downright funny, imagine a geek jumping off the balcony to get a soda. But the implication is right there, staring back at you, in 3D dimensions, no pun intended. 3D f*cks with your eyes, and it’s a serious issue. The phenomenon is still new to massmarket; thus how do we know that prolonged viewing 3D does not damage our eyesight permanently, anything is possible. I am dead sure that Samsung and LG have not spent millions of dollars testing this stuff out over a long period of time. The deal with 3D causing headaches goes back to a simple but highly prevalent phenomenon of Motion Sickness. Our brain doesn't have eyes of its own; it uses our eyes, and ears, and touch to calculate whether we are moving or stationary. Thus when you stare straight up ahead in a moving car, your ears pressure tells the brains its moving, and our eyes think we are still. Thus what the brain do? It tells the stomach to kick lunch out. Watching artificial 3D is sort of like that, and the headaches come from there. Thus as consumers we must be aware of the health hazards, and also aware that’s it’s a new tech. Prevention is better than cure.
