coolblue 10 Report post Posted December 28, 2014 (edited) They have asked extension of five years to launch 4g obligation Airtel has launched 4G in couple of circles. I understand RJIO is a new player and did not have tower, infrastructure of their own. But in 4 years after entering in agreements with Reliance Communication, Airtel for tower sharing, RJIO has not even be able to launch services in a single city or district, leave aside a single circle. Now they want 5 years more. I guess we should open our doors for foriegn players and provide international players subsidies and priviliges so they come to India and invest rather than trusting these desi players. Even after 6 years after launch rcom is still struggling. Players like Telenor are doing better than them. Edited December 28, 2014 by coolblue

commonman 228 Report post Posted December 28, 2014 The speculation of 28th Dec launch has been going on since 2012. Three years, nothing to show. 4G requires specialised handset. Many people have been deferring purchase of new handsets in the expectation of launch by RJIO. Sooner or later they would realise that the wait is too long and they would commit to an existing service provider and technology. And in India, people do not throw away new handsets. Also the prime mover advantage would soon be gone as Vodafone, Idea and Airtel readies themselves for 1800 Mhz based 4G launch. The delay is only going to cost RJIO. Airtel has already launched their 4G services in couple of cirlces and I guess aircel has also launched in one circle. RJIO has advantage of pan india licence which is why they are taking their own sweet time to launch their services.

coolblue 10 Report post Posted December 28, 2014 Even Airtel have pan India license They do not have pan india licence : 2300 mhz. However, if they use spectrum (1800 mhz) won in Feb''14 auction for 4G they can be pan india player.
inception 75 Report post Posted December 28, 2014 Airtel 4G - most dense in punjab & haryana. Aircel - only soft launched. Even commercial plans are yet to come.
inception 75 Report post Posted December 28, 2014 A sunday and a 28th Dec went by and Jio is still mum. If they are launching next year, its March - April. Otherwise if they would get extension it's another 2-3 years from now.
KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted December 29, 2014 ^^^^ If they really need time extension, then there is no use in waiting for them and all such hype-beasting will really back fire them, imho...

commonman 228 Report post Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) somehow the situation brings to my mind the Third Reich. The Nazi invented the first Jet fighter plane (ME 262), the first long range basaltic missile (V-2), the first Stealth fighter (HO 229) and the first cruise missile (V-1) and very close to developing atomic weapon. But yet they lost the war because in most cases, Hitler slowed down the development or deployment of these weapons and the Allied forces got time to play catch up. chetan31 1 Report post Posted December 30, 2014 Guys, first can everybody please confirm if the Jio network is up in their cities. People having handset compatible with LTE band 40 can confirm pls. In bangalore, it is not up! Neither on Band 3 LTE! If Network is up, then only we can assume launch of service in that city or town!
KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted December 30, 2014 ^^^^ But they will switch ON their towers ONLY when testing (before launch) right??
chetan31 1 Report post Posted December 30, 2014 Nope, Network should be live at least 4-5 months before the commercial launch. Testing would happen in parallel during those 4-5months. during this time all towers should be live and RJio team should be checking with handsets network up time and performance/peer to peer calling and other value added services. rahuldixit2010 13 Report post Posted December 30, 2014 I think they will take 1-2 year more.
