Reliance Jio - Pan India 4G / LTE network

Recommended Posts

people Rarely needs 10GB on mobile... Rs 250 for 4-5 GB will be real game changer . or say 600-700 with 5gb data and unlimited voice

That's unfortunate ..According to one RJio employee, they are still awaiting clarity.

Jio 4G LTE will be delivered over LTE TDD 2300MHz, LTE FDD 1800 & 800 MHz.

In coming days LTE 700 (new auction) and LTE 2100 (3G to 4G migration) may be launched in India. I don't see LTE TDD over 3500 Mhz coming to India.

Err no, you just quoted the "Which data plan will you take?" from the URL given in this post

An ARPU of 200+ is what they have measured against. So they will be giving extremely competitive voice and data plans, with added platform/content apps

DoT approves RComm-RJio spectrum deal

Only time will tell how successful Jio can be, they have already lost 1st movers advantage.

By they time commercial launch happens they will have to fight AVOID group in almost all places

AVOID definitely will have a better coverage, also most of the tariff cut by Jio will mostly be matched by AVOID

In the end Customers will get better deal for sure.(Something what happened in 2011 for Voice calls)

How will players like Tata/Telenor survive this 4G fight will be a challenge.

RCOM will benefit from spectrum pact with Jio, But paying 5K crore with already 40K debt is a huge burden on them

Merger of RCOM/Aircel even if it happens will not have any advantage as such. Both are debt laden companies with unclear future

Dear common man,

The rates you have specified is almost fully wrong. Incoming calls are free [for all operators] even before Rcdma launch. It was BSNL which first started that trend long back.

Before Rcdma launch, local calls were Rs2.40 per minute and STD calls were Rs3.60 per minute for prepaid numbers of both Airtel and bsnl. But bsnl prepaid has 30 sec pulse, all others have 60 sec pulse.

Whereas in Airtel postpaid numbers there are even plans with local Rs1.00 and STD Rs2.00 / Rs3.00 [mobile/landline] for Rs399 monthly rental plan with Rs150 free usage. The same was available in Bsnl postpaid Rs525 plan, but with 15 sec pulse.

When Rcdma was launched there was only postpaid with only one plan for Rs500 rent [Rs200 extra per month if bought handset in subsidized price, which I didn't] called DAPO plan - DhiruBhai Ambani Pioneer Offer. The call charges are

Rim to Rim local/STD Rs0.40,

Rim to offnet mobile Rs1.20,

Rim to local landline Rs1.00,

Rim to STD offnet Rs2.40,

Rim to STD landline Rs3.40..

unlimited local/STD Sms free,

R world browsing [slow as hell now, but hit at that time] unlimited free.

But 400 minutes of 40p discount available with roll over/carry forward benefit upto a quarter year makes the deal sweet. It effectively means for first 400 minutes [too much for that day] the call charges will be like

Rim to Rim local/STD Rs0.00

Rim to offnet mobile Rs0.80

Rim to landline Rs0.60

Rim to STD offnet Rs2.00

Rim to STD landline Rs3.00

I remember this well, because at that time my dad was using Bsnl postpaid, me using Airtel postpaid, which I gave to my mom, so that I can get Rim DAPO plan with Nokia 2280 [not sure about model number] bought for Rs5600 outright cost.

The call charges difference is very huge in onnet calls + ROAMING CALLS only. Since it's a wll number, there is no need to dial STD code for local landline numbers. I got the connection mainly because roaming is free, with outgoing calls equal to home charges [incl freebies]. But we have to dial *555 [not sure about number] when we move to another SDCA, and we will be assigned another local number apart from the main number. This is actually reliance misusing the loophole in WLL phone service.

This scheme became super hit, once they sell the phones for Rs500 [subsidise price, extra Rs200 x 24 months applicable] each and they also gave 2 mobiles for Rs500 with special offer name monsoon hungama.. But many people misused that offer, but that's another rant for another day.

Dear Deepan

From 2000, I was having one Airtel prepaid number at Delhi and also one Airtel Prepaid at Kolkata used by my Mother. I remember the call rates because my mother always used to scold me for the amount of money spent on calls. I also remember the comments of Sunil Mittal when RIM was announced and he was asked whether Airtel rates would come down "bakre ko to halal hona hi hai, lekin kisto me". The rates mentioned are the actual rates that I used to pay in Delhi in Oct 2002. STD @ Rs.2/3 were midsummers dream at that time. Earlier in 2000, for STD, PSTN charges were separately applicable @ 1 pulse/2 seconds in day time. So calling a land line from mobile on STD worked out to more than Rs.50/min.

Incoming calls for GSM operators became free only from 2003. Here are 2 news items from 21st Jan 2003 when the issue was under hot debate. In fact BSNL and MTNL were the ones who were opposing it tooth and nail.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/Mobile-to-mobile-incoming-calls-to-become-free/articleshow/35073508.cms

http://www.rediff.com/money/2003/jan/21cell1.htm

I switched to DAPO the moment it was made available, in March 2003, as it meant a huge saving in my monthly STD costs. Had to take two, one at Delhi and one at Kolkata. Initially the scheme was to pay Rs.3000 upfront and then monthly Rs.600 (incl finance charges) for 36 months. The handset given was Samsung N191. No other handset was available. Post dated cheques had to be given. Still got the bills for that. Deduction of 40p per call was given upto 400 calls/month. The original DAPO was not that popular due to the post dated cheques and other issues. Then the monsoon hungama scheme came later and became a run away hit. Initially it was postpaid only, prepaid was launched with the monsoon hungama, I remember as I had taken a prepaid connection then for my married sister, handset Nokia. The Nokia and one LG handset was launched during the monsoon hungama. Customers also had the option of taking DAPO postpaid scheme then.

Yes at that time the numbers were WLL based. For Delhi, my handset had 5 Different numbers tagged to the same handset, one for Delhi, one for NOIDA/Ghaziabad, one for Gurgaon, one for Dadri, one for Fariadabad. The numbers used to switch as I traveled from Ghaziabad to Gurgaon via Delhi daily.

For roaming we had to generate a temporary number. If the called number was the primary number, roaming incoming was not free but adjusted within the 400 calls. But if calls were directly made to the temporary number, there was no incoming roaming charges.

Some promising live demos

I hope they are able to maintain such speeds when masses log onto network

^^^^ A congestion-free network always gets you amazing speed. Real test of speed to be seen 6-12 months down the line, after official launch.

These are just gimmicks

Very true. As more and more people share the same bandwidth, the speed and efficiency are bound to come down.
