Greatest 55 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 Hello Friends, I am opening this topic, because I feel we (rimweb family) have so many members, and it might be possible that this topic might be a learning curve for enthusiasts, possible Business Deals, or just plain knowledge about the industry. Nevertheless if the admins feel this topic is not necessary, they can delete it. We have just now installed a High-Vacuum Metallizing Machine which has Pre and Post Plasma Options. This machine is used to make Headlamp Reflectors for Automotives and also for the general Lighting Industry. This is a very technical line. I have no prior knowledge about the automotive industry, about how it works, who to contact, where to contact, etc. I need inputs from people who are in the automotive industry or know friends/relatives who are engaged as OEM suppliers or even 1st tier suppliers to the Automotive Industry. Any input would be a great learning curve for me. Who knows, I might even get contacts from the Volkswagen, BMW, GM, Bajaj, Hero Honda, or TATA This topic might be a knowledgeable one for anyone, maybe even students who are studying automotive engineering. SumitVerma 187 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 (edited) @ Kunal, There are two different aspects of this, either you launch your products with your own name or be in contact and do job work for companies who are already in tie-up with car manufacturers eg. Lumax etc. Edited June 27, 2010 by SumitVerma
Greatest 55 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 @kepal, Thanks mate for your inputs. I am not planning to manufacture or create a brand name for ourselves. We plan to do job-work on our High-Vacuum Metallizing Machine, and so I need contacts about people who are OEMs of Leading (read Premium) car brands. Because the machine which we have installed is a very costly one, and it gives quality to the optimum, which is an important factor for premium car owners. Let me brief the process. The Car Headlamps are either moulded or fabricated as per Car Manufacturer's requirements. Then it has to undergo a Vacuum Metallizing process, which brings the shine or lustre which we see from our bare eyes inside the headlamp a.k.a. Mirror Finish. and then again it has to go through a series of protective layers, so that the headlamps' life is increased even in the harshest conditions. So now we have installed the Machine, which gives lustre to these fabricated or moulded headlamp reflectors. Hope this information helps. I also wanted to know the general Business terms of the automotive industry, like delivery schedules, importance to quality, payment terms, etc. Al of these would affect our company. If you have any inputs which are of any help to me, do let me know. @Sumit, we plan to do job-work presently. Entering into a new field altogether with a new brand name, is not actually our forte. So if you know any premium OEM Headlamp Manufacturers, who supply to premium car brands either in India or Abroad, do let me know. Thanks guys..
SumitVerma 187 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 (edited) Knowing the name is not a big deal, I can copy paste the names from my cars. Further you can easily be in contact with them through WWW, its not an issue at all now days. Edited June 28, 2010 by SumitVerma

thilak.kmb 19 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 dear greatest, I am glad that you touched my field. Many of you may not be knowing. I am in the field of automobile servicing with lot of - over 25 yrs - experience. We are buying lot of products incl head lamps. the oem brands are very few; MINDA; LUMAX; AUTOPAL; FIEM AND LUCAS. But there are numerous aftermarket brands mostly from Delhi, which are cheaper and less lasting. After market volumes are very high but oem market is less profitable with very high quality requirements. Decide yourself.
Greatest 55 Report post Posted June 29, 2010 @Akshat, Thanks man.. I just checked their website, and I feel for some of their products, it would be possible for us to get in touch with them. If you could pm me the contact person's name and number, it would be easy for me to get in touch with them, with your reference. Thanks a ton mate. And btw, your dp is awesome.. the guy playing with the 2 'balls'.. @THILAKAN A, I am truely happy to know that you are having atleast 25 years of experience in the Automotive servicing field. And your inputs are very valuable to me/us. I know that there are various local brands in the market, specially from Delhi, but we do not plan to work with them, as the product quality which they sell is very inferior to the one we will make. So no point in contacting them, as they will not give us the price that we ask for. Therefore, we are targeting OEMs. But this is strange that even after they wanting very high quality, they do not want to pay the price for it. Let me contact a few of them, and know what is their response. Anyhow, if you know anyone from these companies to whom I should get in touch with for High-Vacuum Metalizing, it would be very much appreciable, as then, my job becomes faster. C'Mon guys, rimweb is such a huge family. And only a few of them in the industry of automobiles? (psssst, I am being very selfish, LOL)
