Arun 795 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 DAKC (Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City), Navi Mumbai, December 13, 2004 Flexibility to retain old RIM number with new a handset @ just Rs22 Old handset can be reactivated with Get Started Kit Big boost to second hand CDMA mobile market India's largest mobile service provider Reliance Infocomm has rolled out a Handset Change Card (HCC) to offer its subscribers with the flexibility of changing or upgrading to the handset of their choice and retaining the old phone number with it. A Reliance IndiaMobile (RIM) customer can now buy the HCC costing Rs22, inclusive of services tax of 10.2%, from any WebWorld or the 40,000-strong channel partner chain across the country to deactivate the old handset and then transfer the same number to another handset of his choice. The old handset, which stands deactivated, can be reactivated and reused with a fresh number with the help of another wonder product called Get Started Kit (GSK) that Reliance Infocomm has recently launched. Like the GSK, Handset Change Card can also be used by both prepaid and postpaid RIM customers. Hitherto, Reliance, or for that matter any other CDMA operator, has been providing handsets with pre-activated numbers. Announcing the launch of the HCC S P Shukla, President - Wireless Products and Services, Reliance Infocomm, said: "With this, RIM customers now enjoy the freedom and flexibility of retaining their existing numbers when they change to a new handset of their choice. With the off-the-shelf availability of a wide range of new and competitively priced colour and black and white handsets, both HCC and GSK come as useful features to RIM customers." The products would also give a big boost to the newly emerging second hand mobile phone market, particularly in small towns. Reliance Infocomm services are now available in close 1,500 cities and towns across the country and will be gradually spread to about 5,000 locations by the year-end.
