For example they have recently released for mi2 and for mi3 (launched more than eight months back) after six or seven months, So developers usually don't care much about Xiaomi phones, IMHO. If you look in xda, you can understand. But rooting is not much difficult as their phones come with unlockable boot loader. All you will need is correct custom recovery image.
