This feature allows you to even simply plug the device into your laptop or desktop and get connected instantly.

It's a nice device for the home where TATA's signal is weak.

It can be parked somewhere in the top of shelf at the remote corner of the home.

Laptops can be hooked on to it through Wi-Fi.

Here's the official link.

Had it been integrated with femto-cell, it would have been a wise decision to improve cellular indoor coverage.

Anyway, India is lagging in the technology adaptation. We've to be satisifed with what have been offered.

This does not seem to be a good price. Spice Mobile, Olive, Huawei, Movil etc are planning to launch Android Device with 528-600 Mhz processors with 3g within months from now. It will be better to buy that as you will get better functionality and additional phone alongwith better battery (this one seems to claim only 2.5 hrs which is way tooo less for a device of this type) for the same price as all these companies are looking at a $100-$110 price bracket for android phones. (eg. Huawei Ideos)!! :D

Infact, 3g supports speeds upto 7.2 mbps ! so you'll be better off getting a gsm ideos for 5-7k (when it is launched) since you can change your operator freely as the phone will be sim based....no programming required ! :)

This all ofcourse depends on the price of the phones that are launched

TATA has increased the price of TATA Photon WiFi to Rs. 6499 from Rs. 4999 after looking at the demand.

I feel this increment is stupidly calibrated for the following reasons.

1) TATA Photon+ (Rs. 2499) and Olive Nexus (Rs. 3499 -- web price) = Rs.5998 can together do what TATA Photon WiFi does.

2) TATA Photon+ new connection has Rs. 200 dicount on its monthly rental which is not there in TATA Photon WiFi

3) Olive Nexus is universal(meaning any USB modem from any technology(1x/EVDO/EDGE/HSDPA etc.,) from any operator can be inserted in) in functionality but TATA Photon WiFi is locked to TATA EVDO n/w

Tata is refuting the Demand-supply theory of economics. Who will buy this? I've never found anybody to use this wifi router+Photon plus device.

Good suggestion, Kesav.

+1 for you.

When MNP was far away from us, those CDMA biggies (Tata and RCom) are helping us in (affordable tariffs, esp roaming) many ways.. But when MNP is coming very very near, they got MAD and started doing ridiculous things (Tata-- AKey, Photon+ coverage, Cost of devices & Rcom-- See the "RCom showing its TRUE face" Thread)..

Now I am seeing so many Die-Hard RCom and Tata fans ready to jump to other operators on introduction of MNP.. Looks like only MTS is playing safe for MNP as it now allows use of EV-DO on foreign handsets too...

:previous: I second what KanagaDeepan said. Just when MNP is around the corner Tatas and Rel got insane started irritating the customers with new restrictions. The customer satisfaction with them have always been a strained one and now with this, the high ARPU subscribers will surely jump stables as the biggies - Airtel / Vodafone will tempt them with irresistible offers.
