kesav 127 Report post Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) Inorder to withstand the storm of MTS MBLAZE, TATA responds with reduced tariff. Volume(GB) -- MTS -- TATA 1 -- 598 -- 606.65(550+tax) 2 -- 698 -- 716.95(650+tax) 3 -- 798 -- 716.95(650+tax) 10 -- 1050 -- 992.70(900+tax) 15 -- 1500 -- 1433.90(1300+tax) Still below 3 GB, MTS scores well. On and above 3 GB, TATA wins Due to the onslaught of MTS MBLAZE 999 unlimited, TATA was forced to introduce 3 unlimited plans FUP limit(GB) -- MTS -- TATA 5 -- NA -- 827.25(750+tax) 10 -- NA -- 992.70(900+tax) 15 -- 999 -- 1433.90(1300+tax) In this unlimited segment, TATA fades infront of MTS. There's no clarity whether this reduction in tariff by TATA is applicable to existing customers. http://www.tataphoton.com/tata-photon-usb.aspx Edited August 14, 2010 by kesav
sougatadc 358 Report post Posted August 14, 2010 But how is MTS' coverage? Is it good at remote places?
kesav 127 Report post Posted August 14, 2010 Nobody has EvDO coverage in remote locations All of them(TATA,Reliance,MTS) except for BSNL have coverage of less than 100 towns/cities.
KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) Yes, RCom, Tata, MTS has only good coverage in cities... Nothing in remote areas and in towns.. But BSNL has Coverage problems in CITIES also.. Their activity seems as they are doing their job un-willingly... In my home-town Sivakasi, they are saying that EV-DO is there.. But NO REASONABLE speed/stable in-building coverage even in centre of TOWN.. The reason they are saying is, they have launched EV-DO ONLY in their two towers. Who BLOCKED THEM TO INSTALL EV-DO equipment in all their towers??? There's no clarity whether this reduction in tariff by TATA is applicable to existing customers. So they have changed my Rs950-Rs200Discount + 5GB Limited plan to 5GB-EV-DO+Unlimited1x plan.. Nice plan as no need to worry about Limits and frequently connecting and disconnecting.. If they are going to say for new activations only, then I will surrender my Photon+ and get MBlaze instead... Edited August 14, 2010 by KanagaDeepan
kshah 452 Report post Posted August 14, 2010 BSNL modems are worst. Especially zte 8700. If you use other modem then speed is much better and stable.

ramtech 47 Report post Posted August 14, 2010 waiting for RCDMA to react to TATA Reliance shows negative reaction ( will increase tariffs) because Reliance is now filled with Airtel guys. Can see other tariffs are increasing slowly in reliance. Seems bad days are nearing Reliance
raccoon 53 Report post Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) Beware dudes, Airtel's tactics do not stop at just increasing tariffs outright. Some other tactics are craftily designed tariffs (eg. charge higher for 1st call (and not for 1st minute!), outright cheating (activate services without request, balance deduction with no explanation, show higher than actual data usage, etc., etc). I won't be surprised if all this starts happening with RCom, now that the Airtel scum has infiltrated it. But no use cribbing. We have many other options now... KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) No Ramesh Ji... They won't increase tariff openly.. They will increase tariff unexpectedly, just like they have done with R2R 20p scheme, SimplePPC, decreasing tariff validity, increasing 1p SMS voucher cost, etc... To be Simple, TARIFF INCREASE will never be SIMPLE and straight-forward .. It will be done with some complications or to be precise, CUNNINGLY... All of course due to the Airtel guys in the RCom camp... Edited August 14, 2010 by KanagaDeepan
commonman 228 Report post Posted August 15, 2010 As per their website TATA is also offering 2GB for 550 on HSIA (Corby / LG 510 etc) handsets as a special offer. Anybody having experience of activating EVDO with TATA? Given the difficulties faced with Reliance, shifting to TATA may be a better option then.
copperco2 24 Report post Posted August 16, 2010 (edited) waiting for RCDMA to react to TATA Reliance shows negative reaction ( will increase tariffs) because Reliance is now filled with Airtel guys. Can see other tariffs are increasing slowly in reliance. Seems bad days are nearing Reliance It seems the 3G debt burden has got RIM under its weight. RIM is now applying the strategy of cutting down on the freebies and increasing the tariffs wherever possible. This strategy in the past few months has increased its Average Revenue Per user but it is a long way off from being one of the most profitable cellular service provider even though it is the third largest in terms of subscriber base. This increase in tariff if not retaliated by the user of RIM then all the other telcos will follow on the same lines. soon. I have only got good reviews of photon+ compared to bband+.. on the speed front. no review as so much for MTS Edited August 16, 2010 by copperco2

Anybody having experience of activating EVDO with TATA? Given the difficulties faced with Reliance, shifting to TATA may be a better option then. That's really interesting. http://www.tataphoton.com/tata-photon-on-mobile.aspx Rs. 110 for 256 MB, Rs. 320 for 1 GB and Rs.550 for 2 GB It's not just special offer but a permanent one. This tariff is well below MTS MBLAZE tariff. So it means TATA Photon+ through tethering Mobile is cheaper than USB modem tariff. TATA is inducing us to buy our own handsets and use just their OMH SIM instead of buying their Photon+ USB Modems. Pay for 5 months, get 6 months Pay for 9 months, get 12 months http://www.tataphoton.com/tata-photon-usb.aspx (see section "Pay Less, Get More!") sougatadc 358 Report post Posted October 25, 2010 If they are going to say for new activations only, then I will surrender my Photon+ and get MBlaze instead... ^^^ This "pay less, get more" is for existing customers only. So Kanaga must be happy.
KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted October 25, 2010 No sir ji... They have given me the benefits of new customer (Rs200 discount) without any advanced-rental burden... Of-course after some threatening (If you r going to provide Rs200 discount for new users only, then close my Photon+ connection and I will get a new one with Rs200 discount) Further they can't ignore me, as they are not well established in our town and my current total bill-value (total bill amount of all my connections) is about 4% of the total bill-value of my town... Hmmm... The advantage of living in medium size towns..
