First look at the OGT Tablet -- The World's Thinnest Android Tablet

androidcentral

thumb_550_ogt_tablet.jpg

Ask any analyst, technophile, or blogger -- this summer we expect a plethora of Android tablets. Some will be good, some not so much, but the OGT Tablet is something we're going to be keeping our eye on. Not only do they bill it as "the world's thinnest Android tablet" at a trim 7 mm and only 550 grams in weight, it has some very interesting specs. Besides the 1 GHz processor (unknown make at this time) and the 16 GB and 32 GB flavors, the OGT tablet comes with a working microSD card slot out of the box and the industry's first true color display at a whopping 188 ppi (pixels per inch). That's more than the Xoom's 152 ppi, and a lot more than the iPad's 132 ppi. Add in a 5MP rear camera and a 3MP front-facing cam, and both a 3G and Wifi only model, and this one already stands out from the crowd.

Or at least it promises to. Will the OGT Tablet be one of the summer's winners? We'll have to wait and see.

Think Slate and other Lenovo Honeycomb tablets expected in 2011

Thinkpad-tablet1-615--.jpg

A leaked PowerPoint presentation procured by ThisIsMyNextSite has revealed that Lenovo is developing other tablets apart from its U1 Hybrid. The first of these is called Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet or the Think Slate, which runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The Think Slate is powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 SoC, and has a 10.1-inch IPS display, with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels.

Bearing both front and rear cameras, it comes in three storage configurations, 16, 32 and 64GB. The capacitive N-Trig touchscreen will also support a stylus, what Lenovo calls a “true pen,” for both “sketching and note-taking.” It will offer both Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, as well as a wealth of ports and slots – USB 2.0, microUSB, SD card, and mini-HDMI. The tablet will also come with a “keyboard portfolio case,” which will presumably transform tablet into another tablet-laptop hybrid.

The Think Slate will run Lenovo Family UI on top of Honeycomb, geared towards the enterprise with plenty of productivity, connectivity, and security features, including software from Cisco, Computrace, McAfee, and Symantec. The Think Slate should be arriving by Q3 2011.

Another Lenovo tablet was spotted, an unnamed Tegra 2-powered Honeycomb device with a 7-inch 1280x800 pixel high resolution screen. As seen in the roadmap slide below, which is thought to be more than a few months old, the tablet may run Le OS instead of Android, but that seems quite unlikely now. It is expected to release in Q4 2011.

galaxy-tab-ctia.jpg

Samsung Mobile India Head Ranjit Yadav today confirmed the launch plans for new Galaxy Tabs in India. According to him, Samsung will release Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9 in the market next month and these tablets will be sold for around INR 35,000 and INR 28,000 respectively.

The pricing seems to be pretty decent, but it is still unclear that this pricing is for 3G version or WiFi only versions. I think, it is for the WiFi only versions, as the 3G version of original Galaxy Tab was priced at INR 38,000 at the time of launch last year.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9, which were announced at a Samsung event in March sport a slim form factor and come with Honeycomb and dual core processors inside.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 vs. Apple iPad 2 vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

The Indian tablet market sure is heating up, with the Apple iPad 2 recently being officially introduced, as well as the first Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet - Acer Iconia Tab A500 (check out hands-on video!). Samsung is also due to make an appearance with its Honeycomb tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, by July, and the Motorola Xoom is also expected soon. Will the Acer Iconia Tab A500 have enough muscle to take on the Apple iPad 2, and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - which boasts of the same dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor?

We've taken a look at just how well it stacks up against them in terms of specifications, in the table below. While we can't declare a winner just by looking at them, we can safely say that the Iconia Tab A500 is a strong contender, especially at its Rs. 27,990 price point. It will make a major impact in the market as the first proper Honeycomb tablet in the country, and with its solid feature set, and the choice of the upcoming 3G model will only make things very interesting for the consumer.

Remember, Acer is also offering a Windows 7 tablet with the Iconia Tab W500, and will soon bring a 7-inch Honeycomb tablet as well, in the form of the Iconia Tab A100:

Creative ZiiO Android tablets launched in India, starting from Rs. 17,999

Along with a new range of wireless audio products, Creative launched two new Android tablets. They are based on Android 2.2 Froyo skinned with Creative's own UI which includes a few extra widgets and applications.

These Android tablets will be available in a 7-inch and a 10-inch form-factor, and would be the first tablet devices to include apt-X technology. They are fully capable of pairing with Creative’s wide range of wireless audio equipment. Specifications wise, the tablets include Bluetooth 2.1 EDR with apt-X and A2DP, Wi-Fi b/g, HDMI output and a front facing camera. It also supports a wide range of audio formats and includes X-Fi Crystallizer and X-Fi Expand audio enhancements.

It seems like a mid-level Android tablet, with a lot of scope for improvement in its disappointing touchscreen response. What pleases is that the company has put some effort and used its very own media player app, notepad and a few others. The tablet seems to lack some power, but the audio playback features on both the devices are quite impressive.

The 10-inch model will be available in black and is priced at Rs. 21,999 and the 7-inch model will be available in white, priced at Rs. 17,999. Both the devices will have 8GB and 16GB variants.

ViewSonic's new ViewPad 10Pro to dual-boot Android and Windows

Source.

Viewsonic is launching a refresh to its ViewPad 10, called the ViewPad 10Pro. Boasting of the ability to dual-boot Windows 7 Pro and Android, the tablet actually will use Bluestacks virtualization to run Android apps on Windows 7 - while this maybe better than dual-booting in a way, it is not dual-booting, and can suffer from lowered performance, battery life issues, etc.,. We'll have to wait and see how Viewsonic ended up implementing it.

The device will apparently be the first of the many tablets supposed to be powered by Intel's new Oak Trail mobile processors (in this case, the Z670 1.5GHz) this year. It will sport Windows 7 Pro, and Android 2.2 virtualized, but hopefully, Honeycomb will be offered instead, though we wonder if Google will be especially appreciative.

Other features include a 3G radio, and 32GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded a great deal more with microSD card, or USB drives. It sports a 3500mAh battery, which is promised to deliver up to 4.5 hours of 1080p video playback via HDMI.

We expect Viewsonic to make a more detailed presentation at the Computex 2011 trade show, so stay tuned for more details.

ViewSonic%20ViewPad%2010Pro%20-%20598.jpg

This could turn out to be a smart product which can be a jack of all trades. There is a risk however, of being master of none.

ASUS targets Christmas for Padfone launch, hints at Ice Cream Sandwich

Source

11x0530n81fs.jpg

We just got to spend some quality time with ASUS' newly unveiled Padfone and you can see the smartphone that doubles up as a tablet on video. It's still a mere mockup for now, but ASUS has big plans for it -- plans that coalesce around the Christmas period and the very latest version of Android at that time. ASUS' Benson Lin was careful not to openly admit the company intends to ship with Ice Cream Sandwich, but he did point out that you can't launch a smartphone with Honeycomb as the OS. We were encouraged to draw our own conclusions.

The smartphone is actually the only smart aspect of this hardware pair -- the slate part acts as a display, a set of speakers, an extended battery, and an I/O extender, but it doesn't work by itself. ASUS also tells us there'll be other functionality enabled by the tablet panel, but that's being kept under wraps for now. Compatibility between the display dock and subsequent phone generations is being contemplated but couldn't be confirmed, and as to the UI, ASUS says it'll be almost the same as its second-gen Android tablets. You heard that right, second generation ASUS Android tab.

Asus launches Eee Pad Memo 3D Honeycomb tablet

Source

asus_eee_pad_memo_3d_2.jpg

After PadFone concept device, Asus today revealed another Android tablet – Eee Pad MeMo 3D and it comes with 7 inch display. As the name suggests, Eee Pad Memo 3D comes with a glasses-free 3D display and will have Android 3.1.

Asus has also put stylus support, which means you can use a stylus and use MeMo 3D as a notepad very similar to what HTC Flyer does. Company will be bundling a Bluetooth handset with the tablet, which will help you in making calls and listening to stuff, which hints that Eee Pad MeMo will be coming with cellular connectivity.

Other specifications of the tablet haven't been revealed as of now so is pricing and other details.

From Asus:

The ASUS Eee Pad MeMO 3D is designed to be an alternative take on the 10″ tablet that is fast becoming a standard size. This portrait-oriented device has a 7″ multi-touch screen that can be used in the usual way with Android Honeycomb applications, but there's also the added twist of stylus support, so users can opt for handwriting input and treat the MeMO 3D much like a digital notepad. Productivity is only one area where the Memo 3D scores highly, though. The bundled MeMIC Bluetooth hands-free headset makes it ideal for listening to music and making calls, while flipping the MeMO 3D into landscape turns it into a glasses-free 3D display that adds a new dimension to mobile entertainment. Consumers can enjoy movies, games and photos in 3D, all from the palm of their hand.

Viewsonic to release the first 7-inch Honeycomb tablet - ViewPad 7x

Source.

The race is on for the world’s first 7-inch Honeycomb tablet - 7-inch Asus Eee Pad MeMO or the Viewsonic ViewPad 7x.

Looks like Viewsonic is getting ahead, announcing that they’d be the first to release a Honeycomb tablet in the smaller, 7-inch form factor, with the Viewsonic ViewPad 7x. Boasting of a 1024x600 resolutions screen, the Honeycomb tablet will once again be Tegra 2 powered, and weigh just 380 grams. Viewsonic has also managed to squeeze in HDMI and 3G (HSPA+) connectivity.

The all important question would be pricing, has to be competitive to be successful especially as it is competing with the HTC Flyer, Samsung Galaxy Tab (7") and the Blackberry Playbook all have 1024x600 resolution.

Dual OS tablet. it can run both, Windows & android..

Original article..

This tablet can run both Windows 7 & Android

TAIPEI: Two electronic firms unveiled new tablet computers in Taipei, on the eve of Asia's biggest IT trade fair, as they try to get a slice of a lucrative market dominated by Apple's iPad.

As thousands of industry delegates prepared for the Computex Taipei fair US firm ViewSonic and Taiwan's Shuttle Inc showed off their latest innovations.

ViewSonic, a visual technology firm based in California, introduced what it said is the world's first tablet that is equipped with both Windows 7 and Google's Android platforms.

"While iPad users are aimed for entertainment, our new machine has functions more than that," Kai Wang, a ViewSonic product manager, said during a news conference on the eve of the five-day event.

Kai said the ViewPad 10 Pro will be a simple transition for people who are already used to Microsoft's operation system, adding that he expects much of its customer base to come from those who already use netbooks.

The new tablet, weighing slightly more than 830 grams, will hit the Taiwan market in June and elsewhere in the Asia Pacific in July, with a price tag of up to $799. IT firm Shuttle Inc from Taipei, meanwhile, showed off its low-priced gadget aimed at the student market.

On unveiling the Shuttle V08, company manager Donald Chen said, "It's true iPad is popular, but it is impossible for Apple to take the world's entire tablet market. There is still room for some tailor-made tablet developers."

With anti-dust and waterproof characteristics, its tablet weighs only 650 grams and is slated to cost just $200. "Can you see how big the market will be as long as competitors can grab up to a 30 per cent share of the global tablet market?" Chen said.

Worldwide sales of tablet computers are forecast to hit 50 million units this year and double to 100 million in 2012, said Chang Li from the Taipei Computer Association, which co-hosts the annual trade fair.

Computex Taipei, which runs from Tuesday until Saturday, is the biggest information technology and communications trade show in Asia and attracts thousands of exhibitors from around the world.

MSI to launch four new tablets in India by July

The Android Gingerbread WindPad 100A, along with the Windows-based WindPad 110W, and the low-cost also Gingerbread-based Enjoy 10 and 7 tablets will be making their way into India by July.

The WindPad 100A we saw was a slim device with a brushed metal back panel, bearing an impressive 1280x800 IPS but smudge-loving display onboard, and a wide range of ports, from USB to HDMI and 3.5mm audio. It also bears a 5MP rear camera, and a 2MP front camera, and is powered by the Honeycomb-loving Tegra 2 processor and a whole gigabyte of DDR2 RAM. 16/32GB options will apparently be available, while microSD expansion up to 32GB is also part of the deal. Both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+3G options will also be available. The WindPad 110W sports similar specifications, bearing Intel Atom Z530 1.6GHz processor instead (1-core 2 threads), 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 32GB SSD, and a 4200 mAH battery. Both WindPad 100A and 110W will come with integrated stereo speakers and SRS PC Sound wrap around sound, while the 110W has a range of bundled apps onboard, such as the Smart Tracker control system, MSI Easy Face biometric software, MSI EasyViewer photo manager, and and Office Starter 2010. Expect them to be priced around the Rs. 30K range.

The WindPad Enjoy 10 and Enjoy 7 however are low cost devices, expected to cost around Rs. 15K and Rs. 10K respectively, if their announced USD MSRPs of $299 and $199 are anything to go by. The Gingerbread tablets will offer lower-end specifications compared to their full-fledged brethren. The Enjoy 10 will have a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor powering it, a 10-inch 1024 x 768 screen, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, a 27.3WHr battery, and two (front and rear) 2MP cameras, supposedly capable of 720p HD recording. It is supposedly able to playback 1080p video. The Enjoy 7, has a 7-inch 800 x 480 pixels screen, and a 17.3WHr battery, and the rest of the specs remain the same.

Sakshat Tablet To Launch This Month

Indian tablet to cost Rs 2,200; subsidised at Rs 1,100 for students.

Source

115360_matter.jpg

India's answer to the OLPC (the Sakshat tablet) seems to be on track for a release as early as this month. The Indian Government has announced that the much touted $35 tablet will be supplied to IIT Rajasthan by the end of June. This will be followed by 90,000 more Sakshats being churned off the assembly line over a span of the next four months. The govt has put a price tag of Rs 2,200 on the low-cost device. If this price wasn't unbelievable enough, students can purchase the tablet at a mere Rs 1,100, which is even lower than the projected $35 mark. That's good value for money, considering the relatively ample storage space on offer and its ability to handle multimedia content with aplomb, as seen in the video below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7Jbjmcv_so

Here are some of its features that have been revealed at this juncture:

  • 7" touchscreen
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 32GB HD
  • 2 USB ports
  • Open source OS
  • Video-conferencing facility
  • Multimedia capability
  • Wi-Fi connectivity

Huawei MediaPad Revealed: World's first 7-inch Android 3.2 tablet, Dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm CPU

Source Jun 20th 2011 5:30AM

5851887519_4f4925cc5b.jpg

It's here folks -- the planet's first Android 3.2 tablet. Huawei just introduced a downright luscious new slate over in Singapore, with CommunicAsia being the launchpad for the 7-inch MediaPad. It's the first high-profile 7-inch tablet we've seen in quite some time, and somehow or another, it's managed to leapfrog most of the currently shipping Honeycomb tablets with a build of Android we've only ever joked about. Huawei tells us that Honeycomb 3.2 is essentially the same as 3.1, but specifically tailored to 7-inch tablets as opposed to 10-inch.

Packed within the MediaPad's 10.5mm shell, there's a 217 pixels-per-inch IPS capacitive touchpanel, GPS, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, 802.11n WiFi, a battery good for around six hours of life and a bona fide racehorse as a processor: a dual-core 1.2GHz chip from Qualcomm. If all goes well, it'll ship in the United States in Q3 2011.

It's a fair bit chunkier than the newfangled Galaxy Tab 10.1 (8.6mm), but still slimmer than the original Tab, which clocked in at 11.98mm. It weighs in at 390g (0.86 pounds), supports full 1080p playback, includes HSPA+ (14.4Mbps) 3G support, offers 8GB of internal storage (as well as a microSD slot) and comes pre-loaded with Facebook, Twitter, Let's Golf and Documents To Go. There's also a Bluetooth module, an HDMI output for catching those high-def flicks on the go, and the Flash 10.3 player ensures that those websites won't be a problem. Unfortunately, the company's left a great deal to the imagination -- like pricing, which is being "sorted with retail partners and providers" -- and all we've got for system RAM is a promise that it's "working with partners on specifics." Oddly enough, the company has "no current plans" to produce a WiFi-only model, which definitely puts a damper on those who aren't interested in ponying for carrier data. You can bet we'll be digging for more, but even with the surrounding mystery, calling us "excited" would be a severe understatement.

Sakshat tablet is not available in the open market. HRD ministry is going to distribute it to students in various educational institutions by subsidizing 50% of the cost. First lot is going to IIT Rajasthan. Next few months, it may cover many other educational institutions. Your college may be one of them. :)
