swaroop 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2004 Hey guys.. i m plannin to upgrade my system and i have 2 choices.. either i take AMD64 2800+ processor + MSI K8M Neo-V Mother board.. the descriptions of which are given on [ Tech Tree ] Or i can take a 32bit architecture of AMD Athlon or Intel HT technology. Which one you would suggest is better for current needs... [coz there aint much 64 bit computing applications which we regularly use] . The october CHIP magz doesnt highlight AMD64 much better than its 32 bit edition. and i have planned to take a graphics card.. either.. Power Color ATI Radeon 9800(SE) (128mb) - costing near 10k XFX Geforce FX 5700LE(256mb) - costing near 7k.. any1z got suggestion(s) ...which i should go f0r.... biosbhai 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2004 get AMD64 as it is very good for gaming. also get that 9800SE. it is much better than 5700LE, especially for games like HL2. 5700LE --> NEVER BUY!!!!! its as bad as FX5200 (only slightly better)

swaroop 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 sorry for late reply guys.. but i had gone 2 the h/w market(Nehru Place- New Delhi) and found this graphics card 5700LE is not available here... but another model 59xx is available for around 7500 Bucks .. But i have found another card XFX Geforce FX 6600-256mb for 9875 Rs. But it is a PCI Express Card ( a better one than AGP ) . I couldnt find a good mobo for AMD64 with PCI Express. So i have decided to go for Intel Pentium IV 2.8 GHz HT -> 7300 Rs Intel 915 mobo -> 5375 Rs Kingston 512 Mb RAM -> 4150 Rs (techtree says the ram is cheaper now.but i couldnt find it). XFX GeforceFX 6600(256mb) -> 9875 Rs The combo of AMD64 with a mother board of MSI k8t Neo Platinum is of 14-15k. i suppose it doesnt have PCI Express so i m goin for 2.8 IntelPentium HT. 3.x has serios prescott heating problems.. so the prices for 2.8 have gone up!. I have added up and my budget for upgrade is 30k. any1 knows of any good mother board with PCI Express support for AMD64? . And thanx a lot guys for helping me .. Ganesh 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2004 i have done something else.i brought an AMD2600+ barton last week.after researching for about 3 weeks i found the best package. i simply overclocked amd2600+ by 20mhz fsb and i got the performance of 3000+ without any harm.i am running at a 225Mhz advantage now. I got the krypton c18G motherboard with an onboard GEForceMx440.i can share upto 128MB frame buffer for that.I got another 8X expansion slot for future.512MB ram for OS and another 128MB stick for the display card making a total of 640MB of ram.The total package costed me only 12500 what i mentioned here in the current setup is the best price vs performance balance

swaroop 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2004 i suppose DDR2 512mb is available in the market for around 7k !. would it be better by any chance ? .
Ganesh 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2004 rakesh, i overclocked the fsb through 20Mhz.that means with a multiplier of 11.5, i am getting an advantage of 20*11.5=230Mhz. original speed is 1917 o'clocked speed is then 2147. i am getting the speed of 3000+ now. i am using the stock fan and one additional chasis fan only. my temps run around 43 degrees idle and 49-52 in full load

swaroop 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 (edited) Guys.. i have finally taken the system that ive always wanted. thanq guys for guiding me through.. the prices are also given below. --> Pentium IV 2.8 HT - 1MB L2Cache - Prescott ( i havent got any heating problems.its    just the choice of the cabinet that matters).   Cost = 6750/- --> Intel 915GAV Original Mobo -> 5.1 onboard sound.   [ 925 board was too costly and it is not good presently for price/performance ratio - this is what the dealer told me ]   Cost = 5375/-. --> XFX Geforce 6600 256MB .. Memory addressing 128bit..   Cost = 8950/- --> Kingston 512MB 400Mhz RAM - best in the market.   Cost = 4150/- --> Creative Inspire 4.1 Speakers   Cost = 2590 --> NavTech Cabinet [ auto cooling depending on temperature set - 350W SMPS]   Cost = 1450 These are the games i have played since Yesterday FARCRY -> Runs on highest settings 1024X768X32 .. works gr8t.. mind blowing graphics. Counter Strike Source [HL2 based]-> I still am not able to figure out the problem that my back speakers ( 2 out of 4) are not working when i select 4.1 sound in the settings. I have got 86FPS on 1024X768 with highest settings. Counter Strike v1.6 -> Runs perfectly on the highest settings ... NFS UnderGround2 -> Runs in 1024X768 with all the settings at full intensity.. the graphics card is great.. if some1 has real intentions of great gaming now.. this is the card that i suggest him.. And finally the best thing .. 3dMark03 test results gave a great score of 3563 ! And i know that this thread started with me asking if AMD64 is good ! These are the reasons that i had not preferred it.. PCI Express support for mobo's for AMD64 is very less and the only motherboard i guess in the market is ASUS A8N SLI. [sLI -> the support to use 2 same clock speed graphics cards for dual performance.] It was too expensive ..I dont remember the price of this latest mobo.but its around 15k(mobo only) . So i had to drop the idea and go for Intel 915GAV board. Thanx 2 my frens Setu (who is a member of this forum) and Chirag (he aint here).. they really helped me !! So that is it.. more to come from me.. let me play more games first yaar ! Edited December 30, 2004 by swaroop
