T24...it's Not Prepaid, Not Postpaid, But The First Unpaid Mobile Service

Recommended Posts

Tata Teleservices Ltd and Tata Tele Maharastra introduces a new concept mobile service named T24 (see here). This is basically targeted to urban population and presently it is available in AP, Orissa, Kolkata and West Bengal.

Although the tariff is not at all competitive, the pioneering concept introduced by them is attractive. One can earn talktime by shopping at Future Group Stores like BigBazar, Food Bazar, Central, Pantaloons, ezone, Home Town and Brand Factory or one can win potato, T-shirt or gift vouchers at different stores while recharging his mobile. Per second billing is default but one can shift to per minute billing by recharging with11 and can revert back by recharging with9. Daily 100 sms are free after 2 paid sms, i.e. by paying1.2

is it CDMA or GSM ?

The tariff mentioned above isnt exactly tempting. But it will be interesting to see how this works out :) It will be like buying rice for home plus talktime to us. Should keep my eyes open in BIG Bazar from now on.

If I remember correctly, RCDMA is the first one to provide UNPAID service during their launch, where they have given postpaid connections with ISD facility AND without much verification + handsets at subsidized price AND NO BILL WAS GENERATED for few months.. Many people have mis-used that and have accumulated usage upto 12000 and threw the handsets away.. That is truly an UN-PAID service, imho..

i dont understand wht is the strategy of TATA gp...thy hv branched under different brands as virgin,,mts and now t24...if thy consolidated all their buisness in one brand name thy wud hv got a rather more loyal subscriber base than now which is at present divided...might be buisness wise it wud be more profitable as in an paticular area one network works better than the other but ultimately all the brands as virgin, mts and t24 r using tata network....network wise their clarity is unquestionable and better as compared to reliance gp ...still thy hv branched keeping the stake in major companies and allowing thm to use its assests in growing thm big and with subscriber base hitting an all time low as it got divided into local users and pan-national users, dont know how it will help the company ....

Worldwide, different brands under the same operator have helped to address different customer segments and thus actually increased revenue of the operator. MTS is not a Tata brand, it belongs to Sistema Shyam. As for Virgin and T24, I suspect once MVNOs are allowed in India they will evolve into MVNOs, having got a headstart in branding.
