Paid Apps For Android In India In 2 Weeks

Recommended Posts

Source: Techtree

Google has announced that paid apps on Android platform will be available in 20 more countries that also includes India. With popularity of Android OS based handsets growing worldwide and given the stiff competition from Apple App Store and Nokia's OVI store, Google has decided to expand paid apps portfolio to more countries. This certainly helps Android inch closer to Apple App Store in terms of selling paid Apps in more countries.

Paid Apps for Android were limited only to select countries and free apps in several countries were looked upon as limiting and non-trustworthy. Google has also introduced new licensing service to avoid misuse of apps. Eric Chu, Google Mobile platform manager for Android, stated in a blog post at the official Android Developers blog that widespread adoption has brought with it growing interest in Android Market's support for buying and selling of paid applications in these additional countries.

The Android Market in two weeks will be able to reach out to 32 countries of which the new additions are: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, and Taiwan.

Compared to Google Android's paid apps reach (32 countries), Apple sells paid apps in 90 countries while Nokia sells its paid apps in 190 countries already. Thus Google has loads of catching up to do. But this is certainly a big step in the right direction.

Paid Apps via Android Market Available in India

Prices of the apps are shown in Rupees

Google has made Paid Apps for Android mobile operating system based smartphones available in India along with other countries. Last week, we reported that India based Android phone owners would be able to buy Paid Apps from Android Market. Now the the Paid Apps section has finally gone live in India and the prices are shown in the Indian currency - Rupees.

So, if you have an Android OS based handset, go to Android Market and tap on 'Just In' section to see all the new Paid Apps section. Currently, all the Paid Apps are listed in Rupees and appear to be directly converted from Euros.

When you wish to buy an app, you'll have to enter your credit card details for the Google Checkout service. If you're a registered Google Checkout user, all you have to do is hit 'Buy Now'. The prices of the Paid Apps are converted into Euros just before the final 'Buy Now' button is hit to purchase the app. Take a look:

^^^ I think its a feature of google checkout.. They actual price of the apps must be in USD/Pounds, but since google checkout is going to use the ip of your phone (which will be India specific), they must have enabled feature to convert the currency.. Thats y you can see prices in INR like, 44.19, 64.17, etc..

I am sure if you check the price, it would change almost everyday (5 days a week, because forex markets are closed for the weekends)
