Source NYT: Verizon iPhone coming early next year The New York Times is reporting that Apple and Verizon will begin selling a version of the iPhone 4 early next year, echoing earlier reports from The Wall Street Journal and Wall Street analysts. An anonymous source "in direct contact with Apple" told the Times this week that Apple is readying a version of the iPhone 4 for Verizon's network for an early 2011 release. The long-rumored Verizon iPhone "could significantly alter the dynamics of the smartphone market in the United States," wrote author Miguel Helft. Though Google's Android mobile OS now outsells the iPhone, Helft notes that a deal between Apple and Verizon "could quickly tilt the marketplace back in Apple's favor." According to the report, numerous surveys show that "many owners" of Android handsets would switch to an iPhone if it was offered on Verizon's network. The Verizon iPhone "is going to have a fairly disruptive impact when it lands," the paper quoted Needham & Company analyst Charles Wolf as saying. The report references The Wall Street Journal's Wednesday story as part of "the flurry of reports" predicting a Verizon iPhone. Rumors of a Verizon iPhone have persisted for over a year, coming to a head this week with coverage by both the Times and the Journal. The New York Times and Wall Street Journal are both widely respected publications, but as recently as this summer, their Apple sources have been off the mark. On the eve of the "Antennagate" press conference in July, Helft authored a Times report, citing a source with "direct knowledge" of the iPhone 4 design that the antenna problem. The source asserted that the iPhone antenna problem was a software issue that could "presumably be fixed with a software update." Also prior to the iPhone 4 antenna press conference, the Journal's sources claimed that Apple engineers had known of the problem for almost a year. We would love to carry it when we get there, but we have to earn it,"" said Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg at a Goldman Sachs conference in late September.""I think 4G will accelerate the process, and any other decisions Apple makes would be fine with us. Hopefully, at some point Apple will get with the program."" One must also ask if it is only incidental that these new rumors coincide with the launch of Windows Mobile 7? Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted October 14, 2010 If Iphone will launch on Verizon it will be launching on LTE network So that means Iphone 4G , which it might be called , will be having a sim card slot to put verizon LTE sim card , if u remember we had spy pics of Verizon LTE sim cards also . But if thats the case then Iphone will also have to be backward compatible with 1X/EVDO , they cant just launch LTE only iphone , coz its still not full fledged network , and if someone goes out of LTE coverage means the phone will be as good as ipod touch ,.......lol Also what if Indian operators plan to launch Iphone on LTE networks sometime in future with OMH LTE sims with backward compatibility Its all speculation wait and watch till any official announcement comes , till then take everything with a pinch of salt !!! Verizon iPad-MiFi Bundle: Here's the Catch A Verizon MiFi bundled with an Apple iPad could save you big money on data plans, but if you already have an iPad or a MiFi, you're out of luck. Verizon will start selling the popular Apple iPad at its stores on October 28, and since there is no CDMA iPad so far, Verizon will also sell its MiFi mobile hotspots alongside the WiFi-only iPad, with some pros and cons. Verizon MiFi device, which offers 3G data access to up to five WiFi devices, can be purchased with a 5GB traffic plan for $60 per month. If you buy an iPad and MiFi bundle from Verizon, though, you will pay $10 less for the same service, which is priced at $50 per month. Also, it doesn't require a two-year commitment (same with AT&T's iPad 3G plans); just a rolling monthly service, with no termination fees. It sounds great, right? Heavy data users will pay less per month if they use a MiFi with their iPad. Well, not so fast. According to Verizon's set of frequently asked questions (FAQ) on the deal, if you already have an iPad or a MiFi, you're not eligible for the reduced data traffic rate. Of course, you can still use an iPad with the MiFi (like you could by now), but data charges won't be less than before. The Verizon FAQ states "customers will only be eligible for the new data plans when purchasing the iPad and the MiFi 2200 promotional bundle." The bundle, however, is cheaper than buying a WiFi iPad and a contract-free MiFi (typically $299). The Verizon iPad-MiFi bundle will cost you the same as buying a 3G iPad, namely $630 for the 16GB model, $730 for 32GB, or $830 for 64GB. On the downside, the WiFi-only iPad doesn't come with the GPS chip inside (bundled only with the 3G model). For heavy data users, who need two or more GB of data per month with their iPad, Verizon's deal comes out cheaper per GB -- unless you already have an iPad or a MiFi. AT&T charges $25 for 2GB ($12.50 per GB), while Verizon's deal comes in at $10 per GB. Source Apple to launch CDMA iPhone in India WASHINGTON: Apple is in talks with two Indian telecom operators about launching a CDMA version of the iPhone in India, one of the world's fastest-growing mobile markets, The Wall Street Journal said. Apple is holding discussions with Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices about bringing an iPhone using CDMA, or code division multiple access technology, to India, the newspaper said. An iPhone based on another mobile standard, GSM, or global system for mobile communications, is already available in India through the operators Bharti AirTel and Vodafone Essar, a unit of Vodafone Group. The report that a CDMA-based iPhone could be coming to India comes just days after the Journal said Apple plans to make a CDMA version of its iPhone that Verizon Wireless will begin selling early next year in the United States. AT&T, which uses GSM technology, has been the exclusive carrier of the iPhone in the United States since the touchscreen smartphone was launched in 2007. "Tata has been in talks with them (Apple) for four to five months now," the Journal quoted a "person familiar with the negotiations" as saying. The Journal said launching a CDMA phone in India would give Apple access to more customers in the world's fastest growing telecom market, which is adding around 18 million users a month. It said roughly 20 per cent of India's 670 million wireless users have CDMA phones. Daryl Chiam, a senior analyst at research firm Canalys, told the Journal that Apple accounted for less than 1 per cent of India's smartphone market share in the first half of 2010. That says it all. Apple share will remain at that or less even if it launches in CDMA if it sticks to the absurd pricing model adopted in GSM in India.
