Please Suggest A Gsm Handset

Recommended Posts

I want to buy a GSM phone with these features:

(1) Dual-SIM (GSM+GSM)

(2) 2 MP camera (1.3 will also go)

(3) Bluetooth

(4) Price 5K at maximum (+/- 500)

(5) A simple Bar type phone. No touchscreen, no QWERTY.

and just today I searched the Secunderabad shops and got loads of Micromax, Cellkon and lots of Karbonns, even VIDEOCON looked same way. Wanted to look for ONIDA F860 but couldn't find it anywhere. Did not find Maxx mobiles there. Some guy showed me LG GX300, which was with an impressive 1550 mAh battery and was pretty good at 5K except its larger size. Found Samsung C5212 also with 1.3 MP camera, Big C quoted it at 5100/-. I got confused in all this. I just want to buy a good phone, does not matter whether its Maxx or Samsung.

Any good phone you guys will recommend ?

All brands like Micromax, Karbonns, videocon, onida and others which you looked will be having more or less same features, same type of user interface and practically the same quality as they all are using the same chipset and os. This are O.K.till it works but when the problem arises, you will have to practically throw away and look for another one. See the article here for after sales service of all this brands in My Mobile September 2010 issue http://www.mymobile...._info.php?id=37

Another issue with such handsets is you rarely get proper software, drivers to connect with PC and use PC Sync and other software for contacts, sms etc. In some cases it is available but pretty amateur and rarely works properly.

Even though you don't want QWERT or Touchscreen, at the moment in India, the following 2 phones from Motorola are the best in Dual Sim category from a top brand. None of the brands which you have seen can match this two either in features or motorola build quality and software.

Motorola EX128 Price around Rs.5,800/- Link for Specs http://www.motorola....0008406b00aRCRD

Motorola EX115 Price around Rs. 4,800/- Link for Specs http://www.motorola....0008b06b00aRCRD

OK guys,

After so much searching the archives for 2 days and reading your replies I think branded mobile is the way to go. I liked Motorola EX128 but I don't have any experience with touchscreen mobiles. Everyone agrees on buying branded handset but no one talked about LG GX300 I mentioned in my OP.

Well there was a reason. See here the actual user experiences for LG GX300 http://www.gsmarena....eviews-3360.php

After Nokia now a days samsung is doing good in the market.

So my suggestion will be to go for the Samsung C5212.

I will not recommend C6112 http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/mobile-phone/mobile-phone/dual-sim-phone/GT-C6112OBATWO/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&returnurl=

Because i personally had a very bad experience with slider phone

Have you actually used these phones?? I'm asking because Moto's software in their earlier phones has never been something to rave about.

Also, battery/talk time/stand by time specs. of these phones is a matter of concern. I'd not touch them unless I see a lot of user reviews.

@raccoon

No. I haven't used this phones. And i don't think we can all restrict our opinion only on that factor. I agree with you for Moto's software in some of their earlier phones but Motorola was almost dead and staged a fantastic resurgence. See the kind of handsets it relased after touching nadir. Moto Droid etc which have become a roaring success. It has learnt from its mistakes unlike Nokia and is gaining good market share in US markets. It has definate plans for different countries and particularly categories like Dual Sim in India. It is altogether a different story when a mobile is from new battle hardened reinvented Motorola (Inventor of Mobile Phones) as compared to all this Indian brands and Korean brands like LG.

Again if one is in the market for a phone which is newly released, one can decide based on opinions on forums, searching the net and standing and brand of the Company. All people cannot wait till actual user reviews pour in. Well totally depends on the buyer psyche and urgency. To each his own preference.

:previous: You could be right when you say not everyone can wait for reviews. In fact if everyone does, then there will be no early buyers to write any reviews for people like me.      :P

But still, I would not put too much emphasis on just the brand name (am not saying that it doesn't matter either). Thats because all brands seem to have some/many good products and some/many bad or not so good products. Heck, even some of these Chinese handsets are better in many ways than some handsets from the biggies.

Just a few days ago, a friend of mine who has 2 Nokia phones which were used with 2 different numbers got so fed up with both his Nokias (one is esp. pathetic with voice calls, the other has other problems)  that he ordered a Micromax Q1 online (he didn't want to invest more as hes going abroad, and anyways he likes simple handsets). And believe it or not, he now sounds clearer on the Micromax than on either of his Nokias! And in fact, I myself suggested either of the above Motos to him, as they are or much better "lineage".

Despite this, I myself would be apprehensive of buying such Chinese re-branded stuff. But it seems to work well for many people.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I will not go for any cheap crap, only branded handsets. After searching archives, I finally decided that I will simply buy a single SIM GSM handset. Can I get some choices with Bluetooth and 2 MP camera in bar type?

Holy Cow, so much mind-change by just reading the archived posts :victory:

Congo!  :)  Do post a review sooner, if possible. There are hardly any worthy dual SIM phones and even fewer with reviews.
