gaurangbhartia 19 Report post Posted October 20, 2010 (edited) Hello Everyone, I am writing this difference between the three phones i.e Samsung Epic 4g, HTC Evo 4g, and HTC Incredible as this question has been asked by a few fellow members and non-members. I will only list the major differences and not similarities/minor difference for the sake of shorter post. Display & Display Size : Epic 4g & Fascinate : Super AMOLED, 16M colors, 4.0" Incredible : AMOLED, 16M colors, 3.7" HTC Evo 4g : TFT, 65K Colors, 4.3" Remarks : SuperAmoled consumes less battery but TFT has more natural colours.SuperAmoled is most vibrant and sharp but at times colors feel unnatural. Dont get me wrong here, but this is of personal taste and you may not even notice a difference. Both Samsung Wins Camera, Secondary Camera, Flash : Epic 4g : 5 MP, VGA , Yes Dual Incredible : 8 MP, - (None) , Yes Dual HTC Evo 4g : 8 MP, 1.3 MP , Yes Single Fascinate : 5 MP, - (None) , Yes Single Remarks : One should not go on specs and see the actual picture to judge the camera rather than mega pixels. It also depends on sensor size which is not listed on any site. I have not compared the cameras myself. EVO Slightly Wins but all have good Performance Processor : Epic 4g & Facinate : ARM Cortex A8 1GHz (45nm dye size Hummingbird eats less power) HTC Evo 4G & Incredible : Snapdragon QSD8650 1 GHz (65nm dye size eats more power) Remarks : Samsung processor is considered best here as it is stated on some sites that it has better graphics acceleration and performance. The actual proccessor performance may be marginaly better but it is considered that graphic acceleration is significantly better. Both Samsung Wins Other Minor Differences : Dimensions & Weight : Epic 4g : 124 x 65 x 14 mm, 155 g Incredible : 117.5 x 58.5 x 11.9 mm, 130 g HTC Evo 4g : 122 x 66 x 13 mm, 170 g Fascinate : 125 x 64 x 10.5 mm, 116 g Fascinate Wins User Interface : Samsung Epic & Fascinate : TouchWiz 3.0 with Built in Swype As per Guarang (Touch Wiz have Better App Drawer where we can make Grouping of Applications, Folders, Quick On Of Button in Task Bar, In build Task Manager Task Killer, App Manager is Breeze), Built in Widget in Samsung is Better Except Clock, 5 Good Live Wallpaper in Samsung EVO & Incredible : HTC Sense (Look Good, Good Clock Widgets) Both Ties Battery : Samsung Epic & Fascinate : 1500 mAh Incredible : 1300 mAh HTC Evo 4g : 1500 mAh Personal Remarks : To me Dimensions and weight hardly matter with such minor differences. UI is a personal preference. I have heard that TouchWiz 3.0 is as good if not better than HTC Sense. Though personally I have just used it for 10 mins. I would personally say that both UIs are having very marginal difference which should not be a major consideration while choosing your phone. Battery life of Samsung Epic 4G will clearly be the best here due to SuperAmoled, though by how much I cannot say. Both Samsung Wins EPIC and Fascnate Gives almost Same life Sound : As per post by Muffy Bhai(mentioned below), Samsung Epic 4G contains wolfson audio chipset with Virtual 5.1 Ear Phones, so audio should be much better than the other 2. EPIC Wins Misc : HTC Evo 4G has mini HDMI Port (used to connect it to a TV/Projector to view the output) Fascinate has Bluetooth v3.0 but no Secondary Call Cam or wiMax (4g), DLNA: Fascinate and EPIC have allShare (Advanced DLNA) so you can Stream Music Phones Audio across Wifi Network, i can Open File Stored in PC on Phone and vise versa, I can play Video Stored on Phone Directly to Samsung or any DLNA Compatible TV EPIC: Yes Incredible: No EVO : No Fascinate : Yes Samsung Wins Scratch Resistence Glasses : EPIC : Yes Incredible : Yes EVO : Yes Fascinate : Yes Scratch Resistence Back Panel: EPIC : Yes EVO : Yes Incredible : Yes Fascinate : No CDMA Radio Throughput EVO : 4.5 Star Incredible : 4.7 Star EPIC : 3.9 Star Fascinate : 4 Star HTC Uses all in one MSM Chipset (CPU(Snapdragon)+Modem+GPS) Samsung Uses Slight Older QSC Chipset (Modem+GPS) HTC Wins in EVDO Speed and overall Radio Performance WiFi EPIC : WiFi N Incredible : WiFi G / (N Disabled to Conserve battery) but Using Custom ROM its Possible EVO : WiFi G / (N Disabled to Conserve battery) but Using Custom ROM its Possible Fascinate : WiFi N Samsung Wins (WiFi N uses less power in Idle Mode and give better Range and Error Corrections) Bluetooth Headset : HTC Wins (Better Reconnection and Reboot Detection) Polished ROM and Custom ROMs : HTC Wins Recovery Process : Samsung Wins ODIN is Simplest (Dont Mess with this though) Overall Looks : EPIC : 3.9 Star Incredible : 3.5 Star EVO : 4.5 Star Fascinate : 4.2 Star EVO Wins Video and Multimedia Performance Samsung WINS - it can play MKV DivX AVI MP4 all using GPU Accelaration, HTC only plays MP4 using GPU Accelaration and all other with CPU Bluetooth File Transfer Samsung Wins Remarks entered above are opinions based on reading a few websites, as I have not got a chance to test the phones personally. They may differ and if you find any remark incorrect, please notify me so that I can correct it. Furthermore, I advice people to read reviews before making a decision. Thanks ! dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 I still feel that HTC Incredible is the best handset out of these three comparing its size in hand and actual usability. Epic 4G would have won but HTC Sense interface beats it hands down, thus Incredible wins for me... This is based on my personal habit of NOT using the keyboard in all my previous handsets owned by me (Mogul; Touch Pro)....
sougatadc 358 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 Good effort by Gourang. Still the buyers will remain in confusion which handset to buy as they are so close in specs and price.
Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) HTC sense is not needed on epic one can use touch wiz or use launcher pro the absence of sense ui on epic is just over hyped by people who dont want to buy epic in real life one will not miss sense ui at all on epic , the touch wiz interface is very similar to sense ui Also though incredible is sleek , but the biggest advantage epic has over incredible and evo is the battery life that alone was strong enough to make me change handset i have a very very heavy usage and cant survive on incredible / evo battery life plu Epic has gorgeous screen and lot of potential and also best keyboard in market the 45nm hummingbird makes difference than 65nm snapdragon when it comes to battery , and i am seeing remarkable battery life with epic Edited October 21, 2010 by Mufaddal
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 ^ I am using both Incredible and Galaxy S and I like HTC sense better though its a personal choice; and my Epic is also on the way so its not that I dont want to buy Epic; will decide which to keep when I get both in hand... the comment about battery life is a very justified one...
Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 ^^^ if one doesnt like touch wiz , one can anytime use launcher pro is same as sense ui with even more options in android you can never run out of customisation options , so ui should never be a deciding factor deciding factor should be speeds and battery life
gaurangbhartia 19 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 @ Rajan Mehta - Thanks Mate ! I did expand on the differences as per your suggestion. @ Dkaile - I personally agree with you for the keyboard part. Even I have got an EVO 4g and prefer a phone without keyboard as I dont find any use for it ! . As for Sense vs TouchWiz, I dont think it is that major a difference that one should choose one phone for the other. Personally, I am very happy with my HTC EVO 4G due to bigger display so it works out for me. But all these are personal tastes and preferences, I guess... some people dont want to buy the phone without a keyboard. @ Sougata - No need to be in confusion... The whole point of putting the post is to tell people that the hansets are very very similar... Just try and get the best deal that you get. @ All - Personally, I would either go in for HTC Evo 4G or Samsung Epic due to - Bigger diplay & Secondary call camera. If you getting EVDO, secondary call camera will be usefull for video calling. If you are not using data connection, the secondary call cam is not going to be that useful. Epic is specification wise the best here, though personally I don't like phones with keyboard as they tend to become bulky and I have never seen the need to use the keyboard. HTC Evo 4g has a bad battery life though (Mine lasts till 7pm till the eve. But also consider that my talktime is atleast 1 hr a day topping out at 2-2.5 hrs. )
gaurangbhartia 19 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) Oh my god, 3 posts by the time I was typing 1 !! lolz ... didnt see Muffy Bhai's posts before posting ! I agree with Muffy bhai that UI should not be the deciding factor. go according to the hardware. Edited October 21, 2010 by gaurangbhartia

csmart 472 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 even i was looking on the net for similar comparison. i found few videos. Epic has benefit of physical keyboard and millions of colours. <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TheQbKfeQMk?fs=1&hl=en_US"> but i found that sence UI is better than samsung. its personal choice. i am using touch pro for almost a year and will say my use of physical keyboard is extremly limited. i am still confuse between incredible and evo... csmart 472 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 if you see the video posted in previous post, epic has some minor limitations like only one contact viewable, buttons/links on home screen cannot be customised, etc. the benefit of epic is also its graphic card which both HTC handsets are lacking. sougatadc 358 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 If you are not using data connection, the secondary call cam is not going to be that useful. Not using data on such high-end phones is like having an HD LED TV with terrestrial connection for Doordarshan channels only. Tata Indicom has introduced internet packs which are very cheap... Rs 43 for 1GB and Rs 94 for 2.5GB. But these packs work only when accessed using userid and password as 'wapuser' while they charge @40p/min for tethering or 10p/10kb if userid and passwords are 'internet'. These are too costly. Moreover, this internet packs require proxy settings for use on the mobile. Can any techie throw some light on the possibility of using userid and password as 'wapuser' (also whether proxy is required or not) and use these attractive internet packs on the mobile itself. Tata's EVDO packs are not that cheap and also very few places are having Tata Photon+ signal. Even my home-town is not covered. Hence, going for 1X data signal is prudent and only option till now. I'm using this internet on my mobile and accessing full internet without any hassle. The speed is decent compared to GPRS packs available on other operators' services. Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 proxy can be set to use on it , so yes but tata indicom activations are big headaches now anyways one more point which i missed about epic the epic has wolfson audio chipset , wolfson is reknown audio hardware manufacturers, thats reason why it supports good audio output samsung does know how to make multimedia monsters

abhi.r 95 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 I still like the Incredible... 1) Slim & Light 2) HTC's quality. 3) Nice battery life.. with moderate usage. I use my phone mainly for calls and chats. and e-mails (only when i travel). Though a physical keyboard is a + point for Epic and a necessity for a person who does chatting on phone like me, but that makes the phone Bulky. I can remember the days when i used to carry 6700 in my pocket and took me like 30sec to get it out of my tight jeans and by that time... the caller hung up the phone .. hehehe So slim and light is the way to go!!!! i am open to offers where i can get some xchange deal for incredible against my BB9550 hehehe. i know thats not gonna happen. Evo too is a great phone, but batter life is really a problem. i mean if you want to use a phone which is always plugged in with a charger... then its as good as good old landline phone but there are + points too... You can use it to cover your head when it rains, you can hide your face and with it and sneak out when your wife sees you with your secretary in a shopping mall and the list goes on
Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) ^^^ i dont agree with you , u are saying all those without even using incredible or epic use both and then compare battery life , ur views will be reversed then ....... and epic is not so bulky , not at all comparable to 6700 Edited October 21, 2010 by Mufaddal
csmart 472 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 many are saying abt battery for incredible also. even on verizon site, many users have said they are not satisfied with battery.. users, pls update.. hows battery life on incredible??
Greatest 55 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 ^^ I feel battery is not an issue on incredible. Its only for moderate to heavy users like gurus of rimweb, that they feel battery is low for incredible. Aise bhi, before EPIC launch, no one was complaining about battery.. Its only when new products come out, that people start comparing the newer one with the existing one..
Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 ^^^ lol thats coz u use 2600 mah fat battery with little to no data usage i have been complaining about incredible battery life on heavy usage for quite sometime now
