Sony Playstation Phone Images Surface

Recommended Posts

Source: Techtree

Finally, the rumors have turned out to be true. Sony's PlayStation Phone seems to be a reality and is likely to say daylight officially anytime soon. Engadget has got their hands on images of Sony Ericsson's much rumored PlayStation Phone prototype model. Running Google Android 3.0 Gingerbread, this phone has 1GHz Snapdragon processor and over 3.7-inch screen. This prototype looks pretty similar to the mockup shown by Engadget back in August.

Yes, it is unbelievable for many but the photos of the prototype phone seem original. In August, we reported that Sony will introduce the PlayStation Portable Go like Android smartphone in October. Now the images of PlayStation Phone prototype are evidential enough to assume that this phone indeed is in works. Sporting PSPgo like form factor, the PlayStation Phone runs Android 3.0 aka Gingerbread mobile operating system. The prototype model didn't have the Timescape skin found in Xperia models but we believe it might get PlayStation's XMB (XrossMediaBar).

On the body, the two shoulder buttons exist on the top corners and when you slide out the lower panel, you can see directional buttons and other set of action buttons to game. In the centre lies a huge touch pad that will serve as a mini-trackpad for the phone. On the lower panel, there's a separate Android menu button on left corner and Select-Start buttons on the right corner.

Sony would be using microSD for storage instead of its proprietary Memory Stick Pro in the PlayStation Phone. The front display seems to be somewhere between 3.7-inches to 4.1-inches with a regular set of menu buttons at the bottom of the display. The PlayStation Phone has a camera at the back panel with a flash (looks like Xenon flash to me) and a VGA camera in the front - basically, usable for video chat.

Inside the phone lies 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon chipset with 512MB RAM and 1GB ROM. The Snapdragon MSM8655 chipset is powerful enough to support 3.8-inch display and the Adreno 205 GPU promises better graphics. Hence we're betting that this phone would be capable of 720p HD recording as well.

As far as the release of this phone goes, we believe that it might be released along-side the Android 3.0 Gingerbread announcement next year. For Sony, the new PSPgo hasn't been much of a success compared to the Nintendo DS iterations. However, dropping the UMD (Universal Media Disc) support in PSPgo was a wise move and it will be carried to PlayStation Phone as well. But how many of you would really want to go for combo of PlayStation Portable and smartphone into one device? We would like to hear your thoughts on this.

I'm definitely going for it. It will not sit alongside my PSP Phat and PSP 2000 models but stay in my pocket all the time. :Contento:

It's great news especially snapdragon 8655.

Snapdragon 8655 means this phone will be a world edition capable of working both in HSDPA 14.4 Mbps and EvDO Rev. B

why the hell did sony choose snapdragon 8655 for a phone which focusses on gaming

agreed that adreno 205 can handle gaming , but it will not give proper gaming experience

they should have gone with omap 3630 or hummingbird instead

I dont think samsung will give them humming bird... samsung is in such a great demand that it stopped shipping lcd screens to htc.. thats why htc had trouble keeping up with the evo 4g demand when it was first launched... got sold out thrice on the sprint and best buy websites...

And considering, PSP sells in numbers.. I mean BIG numbers ... they cant let that happen....

Though I agree humming bird is better performance wise...

Though I'm surprised, they should have gone for dual core processors, which should be just round the corner..

who knows, maybe this will lead to a gaming revolution with other leading manufacturers - Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, LG launching dedicated gaming phones along the lines of dedicated music/business phones :GirandoOjos:

New developments that went unnoticed :Equivocado:

PSP Phone Not Playing PSP Games? WTF!

By: Ashish Koshy | Nov 27, 2010

Yesterday we told you about the announcement date of the PSP phone, and quite some time back we also mentioned specs although they are not really confirmed for sure. Today there are some more rumors (and this time we pray and pray some more, that these are only rumors) about the PSP phone not being able to play PSP games. It also says that the phone won’t sell under the PlayStation logo, but rather will be a part of the XPERIA family.

This might not affect those who are only looking for a bad-*** phone, but it definitely surprises those who game on the PSP and we have seen good titles coming to the portable gaming device (for evidence, check the God of War review) Sony Ericsson has chosen to make a different set of games and these will be compatible only with the phone. The games should all be below $10 (approx Rs. 450). The device will probably be launched at the MWC 2011 in February and Sony Ericsson targets a 500 US dollars (approx Rs. 22,900) retail price with 5 games included.

So that’s about it for now. It's good that it runs on the latest Android, but not playing PSP games is certainly not cool!

PSP Phone to be called Sony Ericsson Z1?

By: Ashish Koshy | Dec 02, 2010

Remember the story of the PSP Phone not playing PSP games anymore and also it being a part of the XPERIA family? Well it seems that it won’t be a PSP phone after all (I honestly don’t want to classify it under the PSP category anymore). The phone is set to be rebranded as the Sony Ericsson Z1 as per sources.

Confirmation on the arrival of the Sony PlayStation phone has finally come. The device is to be rolled out at the Mobile World Congress that will get underway in Barcelona in February.

Soon after that, in April, the phone will hit retail outlets.

As you all know, the phone comes with a slider pad akin to the PSP Go, and will be powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655, 512MB of RAM. The Sony PlayStation phone will also hide under the hood 1GB of ROM and sport a 4.1 inch display.

What we also get to know is that Sony may not incorporate latest games as soon as the phone is rolled out at the MWC event.
