LG Optimus One P500

Recommended Posts

Two months ago, LG launched two Froyo-running smartphones - the LG Optimus One and the Optimus Chic but no word on their Indian launch date or pricing. However, the recent press invite we received from LG for its Optimus Series launch hints that at least one of the upcoming devices could be the LG Optimus One, a mid-range android phone running on Froyo ( Android 2.2).

With this launch the LG Optimus One will be the first Froyo running Android device in the Indian market.

There are currently around 11 mid-range Android phones in the Indian market now, and apart from the look and the up-to-date Android OS, there is nothing much different on the LG Optimus One to make it stand out in the mid-range crowd. It has a 3.2-inch HVGA ( 320 x 480) capacitive touchscreen with 256k color support, 3.15MP camera, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, Wi-Fi (b/g) and GPS with A-GPS support. The phone is powered by a 600MHz processor, 170MB of internal memory and up to 32GB of microSD card support. For media playback, there is a DivX/Xvid playback apart form usual MP4 and H.264 formats. The phone is powered by Li-Ion 1500mAh battery.

The expected price for the LG Optimus One is around Rs.13k which falls in line with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 and recently launched Dell's range of Android phones, the Dell XCD28 and XCD35.

MRP Rs. 13,500/-

resolution is double, android is 2.2, battery is 1500mah, looking good... all 3 are gonna have a close fight... maybe Samsung galaxy 3 might win (in these 3)...

:previous: MRP is 13.5 k, but we can expect it to be available for less, right?

And why would Galaxy 3 win? Its screen will be its Achilles heel, IMHO. And the Motorola Quench Xt3 hasn't even been mentioned. Only drawback I see with its specs. is that it does not have an AF camera.

Just 20 days after the initial "1 million" Sales, LG Optimus One sold one more million unit.

In a statement released today, LG said – "The Optimus One reached 1 million sales in about 40 days from its launch in mid-November. And in about 20 days, another 1 million phones were delivered."

And the bigger news.......

LG has announced that it will be updating all the Optimus One Series smartphone to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Official Announcement,

09/12/2010

LG will upgrade all Optimus One smartphones currently using the Froyo OS to the next version of the Android OS, Gingerbread. Details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that was caused regarding this issue.

Hmmm; great initiative by LG; though all 2.2 handsets can theoritically be upgraded to 2.3, but there may remain some performance issues...like playing of hd videos is not possible even as of now (on 2.2) on these handsets as reported by many forums...

How to Root LG Optimus One & remove unwanted apps

Rooting LG Optimus One is very simple, you just need one application and you will get the root access. The good part is you can use the same application to un-root the phone in case you want too.

You can root the Optimus One to remove all the crap applications that come-preloaded on your Optimus One or to use apps which require root access. After you have removed the applications, you can un-root and bingo, you are back to all good unrooted Optimus One without all the crap apps.

z4root-1.png

Steps to root:

* Download Z4Root app from here http://forum.xda-dev...ad.php?t=833953 or Android Market.

* Transfer it to you Optimus One and install it

* Run the app and select permanent root

* If will take a little time and your phone will restart

* You phone is rooted now and you have superuser installed

tb-1.jpg

Steps to remove all the crap apps:

* Download and Install Titanium Backup from Android Market

* Grant it Super User permission

* You should have a pop-up screen in front of you and one of the buttons on the bottom should say "problems". Click that.

* It will install the latest version of busybox

* Now, Tapping the "Backup/Restore" button brings you to the application list – or rather the list of available "items".

* Tapping an application brings up a popup from which you can select actions to be taken with the selected item: You can e.g. run an application, back it up, and restore it (or its settings). You also may also decide to un-install the application – even if it is a system app! But with the latter, you should be very careful: Remove the wrong thing, and your phone may start malfunctioning.

* Use the Un-Install for all the apps that you do not want on your phone.

* Now if you want remove Titanium Backup and unroot Optimus One or leave it like that.

Rajan, v useful info there!

Got to check a working O1 today. The looks are just about as plane jane as can be. The Motorola Quench Xt3 looks better. Even the Samsung galaxy 3 looks better from the front at least, IM0. LG has not paid any attention to the looks dept. at all. :(

Touch screen of the O1 is a bit less sensitive, as is reported in reviews, but I found that the sensitivity while typing an SMS to be higher! Seems like they have varied the sensitivity depending on whats being used. At least that was my initial impression in the 5 mins that I handled it.
