Suggestions Needed For Some Purchases

Recommended Posts

Hi friends.. I need some suggestions for these items:

I want to store my movies in an external hard disc.. Right now 500 GB disc would suffice but I am open to buying a 1000 GB also if pricing is good.. I would want to know the prices and which ones to buy

I also want to have a small portable speaker for music output through my mobile which supports 3.5 mm jack. Which one should I go for and the price thereof?

Finally I am interested to buy an open market qwerty keyboard cdma set which has good battery life. I am yet to make my mind between Samsung speed, Samsung mpower txt 369 and lg cookie. which one a nd whats the prevailing market price?

Thanks in advance.

If you are not interested in OMH handset then Samsung EPIC 4G is one of the best handset at probably best possible bargains available.

@Himanshu Singh

Not clear whether you just want external HDD for Storage OR a Media Player with HDD.

However here goes,

Only External HDD:

Seagate Free Agent GoFlex Desk 1TB.

Approx. Cost Rs 3,875 5 Year Warranty.

Makes no sense to go for 500 GB as difference in price is hardly Rs 600.

External HDD Media Player:

WD TV Live Hub with 1TB Hard Disk built in Approx Price Rs 9,999 (This is MRP. So should get it at lower price in Market)

This was launched in India few days back and market availability is supposed to be after 15th December.

One of the first media players to include the hard disk. Most feature packed yet.

File Formats Supported:

Video - AVI (Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4), MPG/MPEG, VOB, MKV (h.264, x.264, AVC, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1), TS/TP/M2T (MPEG1/2/4, AVC, VC-1), MP4/MOV (MPEG4, h.264), M2TS, WMV9

Photo - JPEG, GIF, TIF/TIFF, BMP, PNG

Audio - MP3, WAV/PCM/LPCM, WMA, AAC, FLAC, MKA, AIF/AIFF, OGG, Dolby Digital, DTS

Playlist - PLS, M3U, WPL

Subtitle - SRT, ***, SSA, SUB, SMI

Interfaces:

Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, HDMI, Composite A/V, Component video, Optical audio

Specification Link Here http://www.wdc.com/e...cts.aspx?id=570

Portable Speaker For Mobile:

X-Mini Portable Capsule Speaker USB Charge for ipod MP3 Rs 865

I previously used to use the small walkman speakers that used to come previously (cost only 100 bucks) which used to play without any power source directly from 3.5mm output from the walkman; that should work perfectly for your requirement if you can still find them in the market...

Thanks for the suggestions.

As for the CDMA cell, I intend to use the set with Tata Indicom so I guess I will have to stick to OMH set.. Out of the Corby speed, Mpower txt and LG's cookie which one is the best value for money?

I will have to search for those speakers which dont require another power source, shall keep an eye for that one.

As for the hard disc confusion, I just needed an external hard disc for my laptop.. Is there really a 1000 GB hard disc available for under 4000? Which company and where to get in Delhi?

see this - market price will be even 500Rs lower - http://shop.ebay.in/...4&_sop=15&_sc=1

Now since he has specified he wants external hard disk for his laptop, how the above desktop hard drives can be lugged around and used with laptop. Will require a power source and external case. Looks like he is looking for slim notebook size external hdd.

You said it makes no sense for paying extra, I said the portability makes sense.

^^^ Where did i say that?

What i said was "Makes no sense to go for 500 GB as difference in price is hardly Rs. 600."

This meant that it is advisable to buy a 1 TB Hard Disk as compared to 500 GB as additional price you pay is hardly Rs. 600.

Dhiraj sir, a portable hdd of 1 TB at about 3800 at Nehru place?? Is it too good or did I miss something?

nope, its not too good to be true; its a fact; these prices are on ebay; in nehru place it will be cheaper on the first floor shops that I mentioned; this price is with power supply one; without power supply one's will be slightly costlier (i.e. those that work/take power directly from usb port only)

2.5" 1TB directly usb powered 6K (will be cheaper at nehru place) - http://shop.ebay.in/...6.c0.m270.l1313

Sorry for being ignorant but whats the difference for self powered or one which power from outside? I have to use it for my laptop.

as the name suggests - power from outside (usually 3.5" PC hard disk drives) requires a outside power source i.e. 220V power input, to function; whereas self powered drives (usually 2.5" laptop drives) derive the power from the usb port of your laptop/pc and dont need an external power socket to function; difference of convenience is great, but so is the price...

Any suggestion between Corby speed/Cookie/Mpower txt?

Handset I would not suggest any of them. Just go for imported set from our forum member seller

I am not sure, the following speaker set will fulfill your requirement but I strongly suggest the below 2.1 channel PC speaker set.

Excellent performance @ 1.5 K with 1 yr warranty

I have to use the set for Tata Indicom and I understand there are issues with respect to activation of tata on foreign handsets.. Thats why I made up my mind to go for one of these sets.. Tata happens to be my second number after Vodafone.. I already am using Nokia E63 for gsm which serves me well for my limited needs with a mobile.. Just want to but a qwerty/touchscreen  phone for Tata.. thanks for the suggestions though mate!

Hey..I have a suggestion for the speaker thing..Someone gifted me this, which was purchased from mumbai, but I am pretty sure it would be available at rest of the places.

The box in which it came had this text "Colour Flash Mini Speaker" MD-96

It has an inbuilt chargeable battery ( with the typical nokia (both old and new) charging inlets), FM , USB, MMC. It has a 3.5mm audio in for external devices as well. The sound quality is also pretty good. The best part is it is quite mobile and can be easily carried.

I have often used it as laptop speakers...Costs around 500 :)

Here are the pics..

And yes it had remote as well :P ..although looks like the typical chinese one..but not bad, if you are a little lazy:)
