rajanmehta 4,056 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) Mukesh Ambani's company Reliance Infotel, which is the only company with pan India spectrum to launch BWA services, has plans of selling tablets at less than Rs 8,000. Long Term Evolution on paper supports downlink peak rates of at least 100 Mbps, an uplink of at least 50 Mbps Just to have an idea how cheap Infotel's proposed tablet will be, consider that it will be about one fourth the price of a high end device such as Samsung's Galaxy Tab, which costs Rs 35,000; or a third of the price of a medium range device like the Olivepad from Olive Communications, which sells at Rs 27,000. Of course, prices in general might go down by the time Infotel's tablet is available. Our sources tell us that the company is currently testing tablets from almost 15 Taiwanese vendors. It has already decided that it will use LTE technology for its network. Infotel is likely to announce its plans in the first quarter of 2011 and will start network roll-out soon after. While the specs of the tablet are not known, our sources are certain that it will use LTE, or Long Term Evolution high speed broadband technology. Apart from that some of Infotel's tablets are expected to run on Android OS and the cheapest ones might use custom Java based operating systems. It is said that tablets will be key to the mass market adoption of broadband and Infotel is expected to ensure that access devices are cheap, the same as Reliance Communications did when it entered the market with CDMA almost a decade ago. Considering the rumor of investment from Reliance in Notion Ink, we might as well see the next version of Adam, which is being called Eve to support LTE and might land on Reliance Infotel, but it seems a long shot. India has been a laggard as far as broadband adoption goes, and analysts have pointed fingers at two main aspects, device cost and lack of content. Infotel hopes that it is solving at least one of these problems. The company said in a presentation to its investors that it will also concentrate on creating an eco system to ensure quality content, and we expect them to already be working on it. copperco2 24 Report post Posted December 23, 2010 By the time the Reliance pad is launched, the prices will stabilise and the focus group to be identified as a user will be more distinct. This will benefit in right pricing of the pad. Currently all and sundry are interested as it is the 'in' thing to own and contributed in the hype and premium of pads. Shall we expect it for free with a service contract of 3 years?

rajanmehta 4,056 Report post Posted December 23, 2010 RIL to enter 4G services space Even as operators like Bharti Airtel, Tata Teleservices and Reliance Communications try to get their act together in 3G services, Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries Ltd has started trials on fourth-generation (4G) mobile technology and is getting ready to enter 4th generation telecom services. As per reports, RIL team at Navi Mumbai has started trials of 4G connection and got download speed of 80 Mbps and upload speed of 20 Mbps – that's much higher than current 3G connection of 3.1 Mbps or 7.2 Mbps. The 4G technology — which is due to be launched sometime next year – will be provided through RIL's telecom arm Reliance Infotel that won wireless internet spectrum auctioned recently. The 4G enables subscribers to watch high-definition video streaming while on the move and live mobile TV. Here the data delivery on mobile phones is even higher than 3G services, thus, you surf internet at lightning speeds. RIL at the moment is looking to finalise equipment as well handset orders. Sources tell NDTV that RIL is in talks with global technology major Qualcomm to get their LTE technology which will allow it to provide 4G services using the BWA band. What could prove challenging for many of the existing telcos is the fact that along with data, RIL is looking to provide voice service, and also making it literally into a full-fledged mobile service. :Sorprendido: And all of this will be at a much lower cost than 3G because the price of BWA spectrum is much lower than 3G spectrum. sgiitk 32 Report post Posted December 23, 2010 You can trust our babus to cite some security threat and stop everything. They are doing it to 3G so how can 4G be allowed. They want 0G!!
starnet 7 Report post Posted December 23, 2010 You can trust our babus to cite some security threat and stop everything. They are doing it to 3G so how can 4G be allowed. They want 0G!! If the phone tapes related to 3G scam released by Outlook Magazine are any indicator, then one can assume that babus and netas will fall in line after they have extorted their bribe money. Case in point is that they never cared about security issues when BSNL and MTNL were offereing 3G services becaue they could not extort bribes from PSU companies. Now that private companies are starting 3G services babus and netas have woken up regarding the security threats because now they see good probability of extorting money from private telecom companies. Dear Friend, Out of valid anger on our public servants, it's not good to conceal/overturn the truth. The fact is PSUs have been asked in the past to stop their 3G services till security agencies were able to monitor the services on real-time. PSUs made arrangement for it and were allowed to resume services. Govt. has clearly mandated to all service providers to start any service(2G or 3G or 4G or any G)only after it has proven to security agencies that those services can be monitored on real-time. The current 3G security issue is purely because of inclination of private corporates towards easier method of bending laws through bribing rather than difficult method of respecting and implementing the law of land. kshah 452 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 It is the fact that psu are best service providers. Days are gone when tghey were poor performer. Look at the depth and breath of their reach and they cater to non profitable segments as well. BSNL and MTNL are not able to provide quality services because of private companies. Every tender is challanged by one or the other bidder and most of the times backed by private cellular operator. This is the fact wether we like it or not. Instead of expressing our view points haphazardly citizenlike us should ask for information using RTI and make firm statements. Private operators are not saints in any ways. Another brillient examples of bright PSU but corrupt buyes are HAL, DRDO
