Honest 836 Report post Posted January 6, 2011 Opera Announces Technology for TVs This is what content providers have been waiting for, as they will now be able to bring their content to millions of end users running Opera Software on their devices. These devices will include tablets, connected TVs, set-top boxes, gaming consoles, vehicles, portable navigation, business terminals and even home appliances. Opera already has the technology as well as good ties within the industry, which make the Opera Devices Software Developer Kit easy to implement on a platform and to integrate with streaming media players, conditional access systems and personal video recorders. Opera Devices Software Developer Kit (SDK) 2.9 builds on all the strengths of its previous version, adding increased HTML5, OPIF and HbbTV compatibility combined with enhanced performance. Christen Krogh, Chief Development Officer, Opera Software said, “The age of passive television viewing is over as consumers are now accessing interactive content with the click of a button. The optimized Opera web experience offers opportunities for OEMs and service providers to take the next generation of Internet protocol TV services into living rooms around the world.” The new features of SDK 2.9 include: HTML5 which has additional features required to run web pages as local applications on a device by implementing standards such as Application Cache, Web Storage and Cross-document messaging. Full Internet TV User Interface (Alpha), which can be used to access ‘long tail’ content bringing a full Internet experience to devices in their living rooms.
