Chirag 5 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 SMS in regional languages with Tegic's software January 20, 2005 17:26 IST Rediff.com US-based Tegic Communications will launch the Hindi version of its upgraded T9 text input software for instant mobile messages in the Indian market in April. "We will launch version 7.2 of T9 text input software in Hindi by end of the first quarter or early Q2 and more languages like English, Bengali, Tamil, Punjabi and Urdu will follow to enhance the features of T9, including speedy word completion and next word prediction", Ray Tsuchiyama, senior vice president, Tegic Communications, said in New Delhi. He said mobile handset manufacturers like LG, Nokia, Samsung, Siemens and Sony Ericcson were already using T9 software for Indian mobile users. However, a current user of T9 software-enabled handset cannot upgrade to 7.2 version in the existing handset. Tegic has started talking to the same vendors for selling its version 7.2 software, he said. "Version 7.2 offers enhanced multi-lingual support, making it easier for users to switch back and forth between languages while sending messages. It automatically predicts the word that the user is most likely to use", he said. Tegic Communications is a wholly-owned subsidiary of America Online Inc.
