Arun 795 Report post Posted January 24, 2011 Times of India January 24, 2011, 12.52 PM IST After announcing that it would launch 3G services in January 2011, Airtel on Monday said it was launching 3G in Karnataka to begin with. The company said it was now targeting a rollout of 3G services across the rest of its 13 3G licence circles by March, thereby acknowledging it was running behind on the rollout. Rival Vodafone too is unlikely to launch its 3G services before middle of February. Announcing this, Sanjay Kapoor, CEO - Bharti airtel Ltd (India & South Asia) said, "It is indeed the start of a new era when 3G services in India roll out on Airtel's network. World over 'Data traffic' on the back of high speed internet and use of social networking has already exceeded the 'Voice traffic'. India is ushering in the domain -- though later than most of the world -- but no doubt we will catch up at a much faster speed." Airtel's 3G services, delivered on high speed HSPA network, will bring in a new era of enriching services in entertainment, utility, commerce and health -- all now on the customer's mobile phone. The Airtel internet on 3G will let users enjoy multimedia services, high speed mobile broadband and internet access with the ability to view videos on mobile phone, make video calls, watch live TV, access high speed internet and enjoy live streaming. With the mobile industry across the world expecting to connect 2.4 billion people to the internet over the next five years, the launch of its 3G services is seen as a key milestone in Bharti Airtel's vision to play a leading role in delivering the power of the mobile internet to an increasing number of people in India. The company will offer time-based plans for light users of data, where usage and billing will be charged by hour, while offering flexi-shield plans for heavy users of data (where usage and billing will be capped), it said. KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) I got the 3G rates rumour... Since it is a rumour, please take it with a pinch of a bucket load of salt... Why I am saying this is "The plans are ridiculous" and may be Airtel is waiting to see initial reactions in web and may change/bring a better(still costly) data tariff later... Please don't blame me later, if these infos went wrong.. 9Rs =10 MB, validity 1 day 60Rs =65 MB, validity 3 days 103Rs =100 MB, validity 30 days 200Rs =250 MB, validity 30 days 450Rs =600 MB, validity 30 days 750Rs =2 GB, validity 30 days After the usage charges will be 30p/20KB ===> Rs15.36 per MB, VERY VERY cheap (in Airtel's terms) and comparing current onion prices... Another rumour that 1.25 GB 3G Data Plan will cost at Rs. 650/- and after that Airtel will charge 10p/MB till Rs2000... Later speed reduces to 128kbps... Source:- NOT AT ALL RELIABLE, as its given as comment in one website (techtree and TelecomTalk to be precise)... KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) Plans are now live here NOT MUCH different from the rumor posted above by me... ==================================================================== Airtel also launched 3G Data Packs as follows : Rs. 9 for 10 MB, validity 1 day Rs. 45 for 40 MB Validity 3 days Rs. 60 for 65 MB, validity 3 days Rs. 103 for 100 MB, validity 30 days Rs. 200 for 250 MB, validity 30 days Rs. 450 for 600 MB, validity 30 days Rs. 750 for 2 GB, validity 30 days. Apart form the above Plans, Airtel also launched on Heavy Users Plan at Rs. 650 which provide 1.25 GB free data usage. After Free usage all 3G data access will be 10p/MB up to 14 GB and after 14 GB the Speed cap of 128 Kbps will be applicable. This Rs650 + 10p/MB means Rs1955.60 for 14GB which is still costly... I dont know whether the 128kbps will be FREE or charged @ Rs15.36 per MB... Edited January 24, 2011 by KanagaDeepan

Karthik R 246 Report post Posted January 24, 2011 Airtel have said it would launch 3G service in 40 plus cities in 13 telecom circles, where it had won spectrum for 3G services in the auction, by March this year. Complete roll out will only be by next year.
KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted January 24, 2011 The rates are actually not that bad, when compared to other players. Then how much bad is really bad for you sir? Airtel's data tariff is costlier than even evdo data tariffs.. Tata and reliance gives 15gb for Rs1300 a month, after that speed reduces to 1x. But airtel's big mouth needs Rs 2000 for 14gb. We are crying that even evdo tariffs are too costly... High spectrum fees can never be the reason for such ridiculous tariffs as bsnl is giving unlimited 3g for Rs 700 a month even without fup and it has paid more spectrum fees than everyone.. Infact only bsnl can get success in 3g race, imho.. Sent from my phone using tapatalk

P. K. Daga 3 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 BSNL 3G network is awful.
kesav 127 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 (edited) Tariff flexibility is similar to BSNL & RCOM without any useless bundling with voice. But with such ridiculous tariff, 3G is never going to reach masses. Official Link http://www.airtel.in/Airtel-3G/tariff_chart.html It's time to compare base/Pay as you Go tariff of different operators. BSNL -- 1p/10 KB (approx. Rs.1/MB) TATA Docomo -- 1p/KB (approx. Rs. 10/MB) RCOM -- 10p/10 KB (approx. Rs. 10/MB) Airtel -- 30p/20 KB (approx. Rs. 15/MB) PS:: Due to launch of 3G, now all operators have same base tariff for both EDGE and 3G. It shows Airtel never learns from its mistakes. Most ridiculous part is even EDGE/GPRS is charged at Rs. 15/MB on base in Airtel. Over the free quota charge on postpaid packs. BSNL -- 1p/10 KB (approx. Rs. 1/MB) TATA Docomo -- 1p/10 KB (approx. Rs. 1/MB) RCOM -- 2p/10KB (on < 1 GB packs) and 1p/10 KB (on >= 1GB packs) (approx. Rs. 2/1 MB) Airtel -- 30p/20 KB (approx. Rs. 15/MB) Again utter foolishness....... Edited January 25, 2011 by kesav

KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 Sir, BSNL also has UnLimited 3G data WITHOUT ANY FUP for Rs700 (at Rs4200 for 6 months) and I am using the same now... So please, I beg you don't compare Airtel with BSNL atleast for the time being...
commonman 228 Report post Posted January 26, 2011 ^^^ As per BSNL website the Rs.4200 for 6 month is a promotional scheme applicable for 90 days from Nov 2010 and not a standard scheme. I have compared the standard packs.
KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) But still NO ONE is ready to give UnLimited data WITHOUT FUP even as a PROMOTIONAL SCHEME.. Further Rs1499 with UnLimited 3G data without FUP is a standard one... But it is good to see Airtel's 3G tariff (with SPECIAL RATES for using while ROAMING) is affordable for commonman Just kidding... Data - yes Video call - no Delhi has all 3 (MTNL, Airtel & RGSM). I'm using MTNL 3G for last 14 months. At present rates for video calls, would not even think of shifting even though signals for both RGSM & Airtel are stronger in my home than MTNL.
ravi_patent 28 Report post Posted January 28, 2011 (edited) considering that Within 72 hours of launch, 1 lakh hook up for Airtel 3G (http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2011/01/28/stories/2011012851721200.htm) and in view of the explanation below one should buy airtel stocks first "What this means is that unless you want to get a shocker of a bill at the end of the month, you should pick your plan very carefully according what you think your usage will be. Online reports are claiming that an Airtel 3.6Mbps card was offering download speeds of about 300KBps, so it will be quite easy for you to use up your data limits pretty quickly" http://www.pcworld.in/news/airtel-3g-tariff-plans-explained-44832011 Edited January 28, 2011 by ravi_patent

Greatest 55 Report post Posted January 28, 2011 I feel to get into 3G life, one must spend some money for a week at the default rates, so that one gets an idea od how much bandwidth he/she is consuming.. and after that choose a plan... Or even vice versa is possible.. choose a plan>wiat for a month> check the extra usage paid for (or) check the unused data space AND then take a decision of whether to decrease/increase the plan... Kuch paane ke liye kuch khona padta hain na...
