Olive Telecom Launches World’s 1st Multi-mode, Multi-band Modem

~ Designs a Technological breakthrough, world’s first multi signal, multi technology modem ~

~The first modem to support 3G in both GSM and CDMA networks~

New Delhi, December 28, 2010: Olive Telecom, the leading Indian convergence device developer has designed the first Modem on the new multi- connective Qualcomm MDM6600 chipset. The first of it’s kind Modem will support 3G in both GSM and CDMA networks. Launched in Russia earlier this week with Sky Link, a part of Rostelecom, the largest state owned telecom conglomerate in Russia.

Speaking on the occasion Gulnara Khasyanova , CEO of Sky Link said- "We began testing a new class of subscriber devices that support multiple standards and frequencies. This is the only missing link for full use of our subscribers dual band 3G-network."

Qualcomm MDM6600 combines all the core technologies of the third generation, existing in the world. MDM6600 supports frequency ranges from 450MHz to 2100MGts, supports GSM / GPRS / EDGE, CDMA,HSDPA,HSPA (up to 14.4 Mbps) and EV-DO (to 14.7 Mbps) as well as the technology of satellite positioning GPS and GLONASS, which is especially important for the Russian Federation.

Celebrating the breakthrough Mr Arun Khanna, Chairman, Olive Telecom said,

"We are proud to launch World’s first Multi-mode, Multi-band modem that will enable both operators and customers to connect seamlessly over different technologies & networks. Olive is committed to bring such innovations to simplify connectivity across technologies. We are expecting large sales revenue and profitability from innovation led devices. Our target markets are India, South East Asia, Africa and Latin America for these modems. Olive will keep focusing on technology, work with global customers and bring exciting products from time to time”.

“With the new Modems, Sky Link becomes the first CDMA450 operator to offer a modem that works around the globe” said Artem Orange, President, Olive Telecom. “Olive Telecom” he continued “has established itself as the most innovative partner to Skylink, They expect permission to convert 1800MHz band for LTE1800 and Olive Telecom has been invited to research and offer devices for this project too.”

The unique functionality and compactness of the Modem will provide the experience of creation and production of millions of units of cellular modems. In addition to traditional USB-modems and wireless access points, Wi-Fi, based on the new chip will be organized by release of embedded modules for notebook PCs, tablet PCs, components for special Machine-to-Machine applications. An additional advantage is reduced power consumption , the Modem will increase the operating time by double.

Although it's not the world's first(as claimed by Olive) Multi-mode, Multi-band Mode but it has several things which are first.

1) It's first Rev. B Multi-mode modem (speed up to 14.7 mbps)

2) It's first HSDPA 14.4 Mbps Multi-mode modem although earlier multi-mode ones where having max HSDPA speed of 7.2 Mbps

We must salute Olive for such a stupendous feat.

This development clearly signals the impending launch of EVDO Rev. B in India.

Olive Telecom rolls out HSPA+ / EV-DO Rev. B dual-mode modem in Russia

Qualcomm's MDM6600 RF chipset might not ring a bell for you, but the ultra-flexible silicon -- introduced earlier this year -- has launched in a product you may have heard of: Motorola's Droid Pro for Verizon. What makes it so special? Basically, it supports just about every 3G+ standard you could possibly want, up to and including HSPA+ at 14.4Mbps and EV-DO Rev. B (with backwards compatibility to A, naturally) up to 14.7Mbps, and India's Olive Telecom is apparently the first to deploy it in a modem. It's not going to India, though -- instead, they've teamed up with Russian carrier Sky Link, which means you should theoretically be rocking among the best wireless speeds in Moscow regardless of the network technology in your local area. Follow the break for the full press release.

All three are kumbhakarnas who will shame even the original one.... So how do you expect Olive to awaken them?

Wait and watch as the going gets merrier and murkier with MNP, L1 extinction, high 3G rates, Akey etc etc....

i think evdo rev.b is going to be reality very soon as MTS has already declared its plans of deploying rev.b and others will surely follow suit...

Guys, let us come back to the unglamourous reality - it will be ages before Reliance/Tata's cdma division with a 100 million and declining following finds the market worthwhile to launch such a device, which will be of immense utility.

I'm not at all surprised about Olive initially launching in Russia.

Reasons::

  • It's world's first device that supports EVDO Rev. B(14.7 Mbps) and HSDPA Category 10 (14.4 Mbps)
  • So embedded Qualcomm chip will have price premium which in turn makes the olive device to cost in premium
  • current EVDO Rev. A (3.1 Mbps) modems in India are priced at Rs. 1600
  • current HSDPA category 8 (7.2 Mbps) modems in India are priced at Rs. 2500
  • Marketable price for this device in India cannot exceed Rs. 4100 ( Rs. 1600 + Rs. 2500)
  • European market is premium market for telecommunication where people will be ready to pay for latest technologies
  • Russia has 3 operators with EVDO Rev. B soft launch
