commonman 228 Report post Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) I need a basic laptop for general use by my wife. I already have a 3 yr old Dell Latitude D630 provided by my office. So this would be more as a backup. But need something more powerful than typical Atom based Netbook. This product does not have an optical drive. The basic version is Rs.20990. However, there are too many configuration options and I am confused. So, need advice on following options, 1. Processor : AMD Athlon II Neo K345 Dual-Core Processor (add-on cost Rs.5000) AMD Athlon II Neo K145 Processor 2. OS: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit [add-on price Rs.2,200.48] Genuine Windows® 7 Home Basic 64-Bit [add-on price Rs.470.98] Genuine Windows® 7 Starter 32-bit 3. K145 + Home Basic + 320 GB HD in lieu of 250 GB [add-on price Rs.2000] 4. K345 + Home Basic + 320 GB HD in lieu of 250 GB + 4 GB RAM in lieu of 2 GB [add-on price Rs.9000] Also need advice on whether some better options are available at same price levels. My experience with existing Dell was not good on Battery issue. The battery went dead after about 15 months. Thankfully, it was replaced by my office with a compatible one. If I select 3 year complete cover, would it include batteries also? Edited February 22, 2011 by commonman
Arun 795 Report post Posted February 22, 2011 Other than the battery life Dell will be a good choice. You cannot get warranty extended for the battery. Buying a battery from Dell is an expensive affair. I got a replacement from eBay.com (from Hong Kong seller) for 1/3rd the price and is working well for now. rajanmehta 4,056 Report post Posted February 22, 2011 Actually would not suggest anything out of what you have selected...They are now old chipsets & low performance CPU... At almost similar prices .... Go for AMD's new Brazos Platform based portables...There are two variants AMD E-Series APU & AMD C-Series APU -World's First Processor & Graphic Core Integrated on Single Chip -Very Good Performance for Normal Use, Even Good for Occassional Gaming -Full HD Playback -DirectX 11 -Excellent Battery Life -Far ahead of Any Atoms Many Netbooks/Laptops based on this platform are being launched in India just now. Few are already in the market i guess. Other than that if you want to have a really good laptop at an amazing price, Go for Toshiba L640-M4010 https://www.toshiba-...llite-L640.html This is a powerful laptop with dedicated graphic card, very good specs and basically everything you need in a laptop. One of our member was able to get it for Rs 25,500 See this thread from post 41 onwards http://www.rimweb.in...post__p__216242 @Mods...
