MUMBAI: Reliance Infocomm on Tuesday announced special tariffs for its pre-paid fixed wireless phone subscribers in the metros on Thursday.Infocomm increased the pulse rate to 90 seconds instead of the earlier 60-second pulse rate, for making local calls to non-Reliance mobiles. As a result, the new effective rate per minute works out to just 73 paise, down 33% from the old rate of Rs 1.10. Calls from Reliance FWP to all Reliance phones are already free under various prepaid schemes . The company has also introduced a special reduced tariff for calls from FWP to fixed lines between Mumbai and Delhi. The new rate is Rs 1.90 with an increased pulse rate of 60 seconds as against the old rate of Rs 1.10 with a 30-second pulse. The new rate per minute works out to Rs.1.90, down from the erstwhile Rs 2.20. A release issued by Reliance Infocomm here today stated that the cost of local calls in the metros of Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai would be reduced by 33%. In case of intercity calls between Mumbai and Delhi, the calls will be cheaper by 14%, the release added. Reliance Infocomm has a subscriber base of over 10 million including mobile, fixed wireless and fixed wireline subscribers. Cellular operators, Airtel and Hutch, had earlier reduced their tariffs after the telecom regulator, Trai, reduced the access deficit charges. The new tariffs were effective February 1, 2005.
