Has anyone tried BSNL DataOne ? If yes pls post your feedback here. How is the speed and how stable it is ? How long did it take to get the connection ? How about Modem is it better taking it from Bsnl or any better brand avaliable in the market ?

Would appreciate if anyone who has used, post his answers for above questions.

Deepu, THis is a review before launch. I am looking for a review on the performance after launched.

Since its launched just now only, i think it will take some time before more people will take it... any way with all the download limits, i do not think any one will like to take this except for some browsing centre waalas

Deepu, you are right. But BSNL as an introductory offer is waiving off download charges till June 30th. I thought if the speed is good then I can use it till then and may switch over to reliance if it is impressive. I am kindda thinking to go for it.

BSNL is too overpriced if you ask me.

Thanks to shortsighted TRAI announcements they're offering 256 kbps @ Rs 500 --- but ONLY 1 GB OF DATA TRANSFER!!!!

Get Reliance Broadband if you can - their support & content will be much much better & of course 256 kbs unlimited access @ Rs 1200 makes much much much more sense!

Just Switched to BSNL Broadband.

I have no words to decribe speed. coz even in reliance webworld i didn't got such speed.

one example. downloaded openoffice.org beta v1.9 in just 44mins.(Total size arround 85MB)

with downloading continue no visible loss in surfing speed.

checked speed at bandwidthplace.com and found 263.3Kbps and 253.60Kbps in two differant tests.

ADSL modem provided by BSNL comes with in-built firewall router and web interface to change settings.

really gr8 move by BSNL.

well, I first inquired at Reliance before opt for Dataone but I don't think reliance will start in near future in my city.

is there really NO download cap till june 30th ? nobody knows clearly....to confuse more, i also heard there was some recent change in the way net_usage is charged ? something like, no download caps but Rs2/mb or something ? is this so?

i want to say 'be careful with downloads till the first bill'... but by the time ur first bill comes, i guess june 30 wd be over ... tricky situation

still, watch ur d/ls...dont want any nasty surprises there.

Now this beats me and I start thinking "is something wrong with the MS Excel loaded on my computer?"

I did the following calculation using "Bill Gates" Excel:

85MB/256kbps = 332.03 seconds < 6 minutes.

You should have taken only 6 minutes to download 85MB download .... why 44 minutes ... was the speed far less than 256kbps on an average (or should I sue Bill Gates for the mental agony caused to me due to errors in his product) ?

i think there might be a B - b confusion... a "7" would bring ur 6 mins and his 44 mins close...

besides... i donno why but - we can NEVER download at 512kbps speed in a 512kbps cnnxn...does sound strange.

Wow ... this was interesting. I many times get 100 kilibytes per seconds ... so it means about 800 kbps (when compared to 256 kbps). We really work on real good BROADBAND

Ok.. let's take a simple case, that we have only 3 people in my office ... all getting 800 kbps speed. Does it mean, my company has bought 800x3 = 2400 kbps i.e. 2.4Mbps speed.

Second, any tricks, by which, I could pull more bandwidth on my computer than the other two guys (i.e. I want to have 2Mbps on my desktop, leaving behing only 400 kbps for the other 2 guys also using the LAN) ?

Also means, the 64 kbps connection my college had, meant only 8 kilobytes per second ... hell ... 8 kilobytes per second to be divided among say 40-50 simultaneous users !!! -- would mean 0.2 kilobytes per second !!!! No wonder, you'd need to come after a day to see, if the 100MB download happened or not ;-)

WebWorld gives good speed at some specific time of day. anyways web world is not good for office work.

I opted for 1200 business scheme of DataOne. so 4GB download is more than enough for me. as speed is more important then download limit for my case.

BSNL appointed CRM's specially for DataOne u can call them on their cell phone at any time when there is problem. only after 3 days I can't say on reliability but will post my expriance.
