ani_meher 42 Report post Posted June 28, 2011 I bought 995 clarity 24K gold coins from ebay at effective rate of Rs.2189 per gram. It is almost equal to market, but here in same rate as of raw gold, you get a sealed coin. I used the ebay HDFC coupon to get 10% off, thus effectively getting price as good as market. ani_meher 42 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) link please of gold coin http://cgi.ebay.in/1-gm-Ganesha-Gold-Coin-24kt-995-Fineness-/260773720731?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item3cb753329b Buy two, and use HDFC coupon HDFCEBAY01 to get max benefit This is the only 995 purity gold coin with no shipping charge. You can also buy two grams coin rather than two one gram coins, but I prefer more liquidity than just consolidating in one coin! dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 ^ I dont see hallmarked mentioned anywhere??
ani_meher 42 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 ^^^ No, but if you check http://www.caratlane.com/, their website, they seem pretty genuine, and they sell hallmarked coins as well, only a bit costlier than these. I don't have doubt, but yes, buyer's discretion advised! Sharp eyes dkaile!
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 ^ in 1 gm coins the loss is more when you for conversion, afaik after confirming from a jeweler friend. 10gms 22k hallmarked will be the best bet...

n_iceman 97 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 ^ in 1 gm coins the loss is more when you for conversion, afaik after confirming from a jeweler friend. 10gms 22k hallmarked will be the best bet... My two cents worth: When you are going to account for the purchase, (i.e. if you are paying using credit card, cheque etc) then it is advisable to buy 'Gold ETF' from BSE stock exchange. It will be safe in your demat account. You can buy as little as 1 gm too. Its highly sellable too. Maximum Value. If you do not have a PAN card, (or dont intend to use it) then it is advisable to buy 8 gms or 10 gm coins (995 purity/22 carat) or buy Gold bars (999 purity/ 24 carat) from a good reputed Jewellery store. See these links too: How to buy gold bars! http://www.rediff.com/getahead/2005/feb/23gold.htm What is hallmarking of gold? http://www.rediff.com/money/2007/may/31gold.htm
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 ^ somehow physical gold inspires more confidence; if everything collapses, gold (physical) will be one of the few commodities left to trade just joking...
ani_meher 42 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 i wud not suggest buying gold online !!! Why man? I am buying gold online for 1-2 years now, from reputed jewellers. The coin is as good as it gets, with proper markings of hallmarking or that jeweller's. I don't trust much in gold etf, as said above. And if you buy gold coin from a shop, they will charge this tax and that making charge, thus shooting up the price. Online you get good offers to buy coins in raw shaped gold rates.
