amitnsonu 72 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 guys (& gurus) please help I am having a sony lcd bought in feb 2010, but recently it shows some problem of distorting colours (service center guys call it ghost image), like red colour images were shown green and so on. I asked service center guy, what is responsible for this, he couldnt help me out, just told me that it could be because of voltage fluctuation. now as i m living in a group housing so we are having power backup (generator), so there are chances of voltage fluctuation plus there is lot of light tripping (mean light goes and genrator on, light comes generator off). So I was thinking that can UPS be a good solution for this ? ie is it safe to run an lcd to run from a ups to avoid light tripping and voltage fluctuation ? amitnsonu 72 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 thanks dheeraj sir i just want to know that "will UPS really provide TV a cushion against voltage fluctuation" ? Is there any Beep beep LESS ups ? I dont want that old beep noise of ups because at my place "no power duration" is only for 20-30 sec (light goes- genset on). thanks for ur support..
commonman 228 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 I have similar back-up issues as well as fluctuations with main power supply. Kept LCD TV connected through UPS right from the first day.
Genius 817 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Well it's Merrut tested now - worst place for electricity so use it Bindass Just see there is difference between power backup and surge protection, if u want complete protection go for ups with surge protection or u can use an external protector also, pure sine wave true online ups are expensive but best. Chetan 13 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 What i have done is, Using a Numeric HOME Inverter Pure sinewave connected for backup when power goes off, and i use my lights, fans and TV.. My TV (samsung 32 LCD) is connected to a V-Guard Stabiliser. ( the ones we use for fridge) I confirmed with samsung technician is we can use it , and he said it is not a problem at all . So use a stabilizer and connect that to your home inverter.

rajanmehta 4,056 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 ^ ^ ^ What's the backup time you are getting if your entire AV setup is running?
mgdelhi 192 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) Actually, I don't need much backup time. When power goes, gensets are automatically started (back required 20 seconds). When the power comes back, backup time of only 2-3 seconds is required. However, in exceptional cases, I have played it for 20-25 minutes and still there was enough juice in it. Moreover, not all the equipments are ON at the same time. Combination like these are possible: LCD + Onkyo + Xtreamer Pro + 2x2TB HDD + 2TB External HDD LCD + Onkyo + Blu-Ray Player LCD + Onkyo + Tata Sky+ HD Norge Amlifier + Blu-Ray Player Edited May 20, 2011 by mgdelhi
westom 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 i just want to know that "will UPS really provide TV a cushion against voltage fluctuation" ? All electronics (including all TVs) will operate normally even when incandescent bulbs dim to 50% intensity. When voltage drops too low, all electronics simply power off. Even 1970 international design standards say all that must happen without any hardware damage. So how often are your lights dimming that much? If so, then the refrigerator, furnace, and dishwasher are at greater risk. Motorized appliances - not electronics - are put at greater risk due to voltage variations. A second myth is 'cleaner' power from a UPS. Do not put a UPS on motorized appliances. Power in battery backup mode can be harmful to small motors and power strip protectors. Power is 'dirtiest' when a UPS is in battery backup mode. And completely irrelevant to every electronic appliance. Because electronic appliances are required (even by international design standards) to be that robust. Another reason why a UPS is made so cheaply. To output 'dirtiest' power because all electronics make 'dirty' power irrelevant. And operate perfectly fine even when incandescent bulbs dim to 50% intensity.
