Please Suggest: Samsung Nexus S or Samsung S2

Recommended Posts

hello guys, i am a newbie here and its an amazing forum for very detailed information on every mobile related query. This place rocks. Now till now i was using Nokia N70 for my gsm sim,but then gave this up to my dad and am using spice QT-56 dual sim based phone for gsm and cdma.I am planning to buy a new handset for myself and finalised to opt for android phones over iphone. They are amazingly good ones with better freedom to for applications, better interface and many options available in market. What do you guys think is better handset to buy within the two i mentioned samsung Nexus S, which is first google phone with getting the latest updates from 2.2 firmware or, upcoming Samsung S2 which though is costly compared to nexus but its newest offering from samsung.

Till my knowledge both work on latest gingerbread 2.2.3 updated ware with amoled screens with 1 MHz processors.Your take on this?

Thank you.

S II is far superior as compared to NexusS. S II has 1.2 Ghz Dual core processor.

Look here for comparison.

Look here for reports of how fast S II is getting sold in various market. Its the best hardware available for any Android Phone till date.

UK Market

Korea Market

Vijay, since you are coming from Nokia & Spice to the Android World and straight away shortlisted Samsung Nexus S & Galaxy S2 which are supposed to be the very high end category Androids, I was wondering whether that was based on some sound cogent technical/practical reasons aligned with your real (not perceived) needs or just an illusory mental satisfaction to get the latest & best... Money no bar...

What i am trying to say is that coming from Nokia & Spice, any decent android for Rs 9-10 K (Like LG Optimus One) will give you a good experience, get drenched in Android World for a few months with your learner's license and by then again the prices of high end androids you mention would have fallen greatly... With some fresh choices... Buy a high end at that time if you really feel the need armed & empowered with the experience...

Just an alternative economic consumer buying theory (Inspired by Ahmedabadis to a great extent)...

hardware wise S2 is better. the benefit with NexusS is that updates are available faster as it is "google" phone. so you have benefit of using latest upgradation. while samsung is really loath for upgrading the firmware. and as @dhiraj said, wait for 3D, if you can. then you broad choice.

rajanji, thankyou for your feedback and support.Yes i also do feel that i should see initial lower end handsets before straight jumping to high end phone which would make me get used to, but then you cannot just keep on changing them every while so thought why not invest in something which is better in technology and would remain atleast for quite few years with available updates. Also would like to know few more things from you all experts, is there better andriod handset for cdma technology as i am using relience cdma as well as Bsnl gsm, and i cannot change my rim no. so was thinking of opting for MNP with my reliance no, but now feel should check some better handsets if available in cdma tech. The complains i have with current ones i have knowledge is either they dont deliver good quality voice transmission not they have better battery life.Just checked few handsets on samsung website and three of them seemed quite qood ones, does any of these you feel i shall go for, which would not make me change my operator as well as give me freedom to use android technology as well.I would start moving across nation for my work in a short span from now, so was looking to change my handset and buy a new one.

above is the link where i had checked three handsets, galaxy pop I559,galaxy 1899 and galaxy 1500, now can u suggest which one is better for long term usage.

Thanks.

Vijay, consider yourself lucky if you are on Reliance CDMA and want a High End Android at great price.. Don't look anywhere else..

There is a perfect solution for you, Buy any one of this amazing / best in class specs CDMA handset from our resident, respected tech guru Hetal Patel here http://www.rimweb.in...epic-fascinate/

They are all officially registered with Reliance with guaranteed EVDO (High Speed Internet) activation. And the prices are icing on the cake.. You simply can't get any similar spec handset in GSM at this price.. HTC Evo Rs 15,500, Samsung Epic Rs 13,500, Samsung Fascinate Rs 14,800

Samsung CDMA i500 Galaxy CDMA (which was launched officially by Reliance) and Samsung Fascinate (Verizon USA CDMA are 100% same in specifications.

However there is a major difference between the two... i500 From Reliance officially costs above 30K whereas here in forum you can get Fascinate for about 15K..

sorry for back to back posts, but as my posts are in line for approval requesting you to merge it.After going through this forum on different posts and thread i have really started to feel instead of going for MNP from reliance to vodafone i would rather stick to reliance and buy a good handset from here.two things making me confuse.Samsung is on real high with some real amazing handsets from them but then all of them are with plastic backcases which are prone to scratches easily compared to ones from Htc who also offers superb products with better built quality. What would experts recommend to choose from either from these brands to go for.

Htc Incredible is one amazing handset to look at along with their new Evo also coming but still that amoled screen is to die for.Your comments highly appreciated and would help me make a decision and order one handset for my reliance cdma connection.

Thankyou.

Plastic back cases on high end samsung like Epic & Fascinate is of a different quality not similar to what you would have experienced on normal 4-5k samsungs sold in India. Does not get scratched that easily if handling is not very rough & back cover can always be replaced if need be. So i won't make that a crucial differentiating factor for shortlisting. As far as build quality goes, HTC would get some more points compared to Samsung but i wonder whether the difference is so large to affect the buying decision.

Go through this topic for comparison between Epic, Evo, Fascinate & Incredible http://www.rimweb.in...htc-incredible/

In Summary:

Samsung Fascinate if you don't need a physical keyboard & Samsung Epic if you need one.. Both has 45nm processor, better graphic chip, Less battery usage with Amoled Screen, 5MP Camera.

Official Android 2.2 right now and Gingerbread will come in future.

HTC EVO if you can are comfortable with a larger, difficult to pocket phone (170 gram) , somewhat lower processor/graphic performance compared to Fascinate/Epic, Normal LCD Screen, 8MP Camera.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread update available today.

Gingerbread is an incremental update and 2.2 froyo is perfectly usable. It would have been a critical factor if the choice was between Android 2.1 & Android 2.2 handset.

Regarding build quality I also have the same view. hTc's build quality is good, but Samsung's high end phones are not bad either. I used hTc Touch whose touch panel got damaged because sweat seeped through invisible gap between the touch panel and the body. I had to replace it as a portion of the touch panel got non-responsive. But Samsung Fascinate has better build quality. It has gorilla glass which is highly scratch resistant and also the back cover is quite good.

I'm using Fascinate for the four months and it is still in impeccable condition - no scratches at all. I use a cloth pouch that I got with Polaroid sunglasses. I'm procuring special pouch from US.

after checking that link i have now again confused myself between samsung fascinate which is same as GalaxyS gsm version and Htc Incredible, wht to do?

I feel some members have some good deals for used fascinate mint conditions below 15k, AS my usage is mainly good sound quality, better OS for applications along with better upgrades.Emails and some social sites are main applications, data usage would be used more while travelling, else have wifi connections at both home and office, so give me ur final call experts, getting more and more confused.I cant change handsets every six months.Would love to keep it for quite long time and can enjoy it as well like multimedia, movies, music as well as internet on go.Help me to choose between Samsung Fascinate and HTC Incredible.Am game for either of these two.

Help me to choose between Samsung Fascinate and HTC Incredible.Am game for either of these two.

Go for Samsung Fascinate.

Why?

Shape & size: It's like having an iPhone in your hand.. It's even lighter then that at 118 grams v/s 137 gram of iPhone 4 v/s 130 grams for Incredible).

Screen: Super AMOLED v/s LCD. AMOLED in addition to brilliant color reproduction will have lower battery consumption.

Processor: Arm Cortex A8 45nm is more powerful, should consume less battery v/s Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD 8650 65nm.

Graphics: PowerVR SGX 540 GPU is much faster/powerful than Adreno 200.

User Interface: Some people love HTC sense more than Samsung Touchwiz. Not a critical factor. One can always use many of the Launchers available to customize UI to what one likes.

Camera: Fascinate has 5 MP compared to 8 MP of Incredible. Reality Check: What % of smartphone owners use their cameras for professional photography? 5MP more than enough for real life use.

Android Version: Both have Officially Android 2.2 as of now. Gingerbread should come later. Many custom ROM's for both. Non issue as of now for buying decision IMHO, other factors outweigh.

Battery: 1500 mAh in fascinate, 1300 mAh in Incredible.

Enough Said.. unsurehelp.gif Go Ahead And Buy The Phone... thumb.gif

However you will find the software+hardware combo of the Incredible almost flawless; Galaxy S simply cant match the software smoothness of HTC...

Though I haven't used Fascinate personally, but have used Samsung Galaxy S (GSM) along with other Samsung Mobiles. I myself own HTC Incredible.

My suggestion would be HTC Incredible...

I'm facing three problems after I switched over to android, especially to Fascinate.

First, it doesn't provide SMS delivery notification. Applications available in the market cannot solve the problem. I'm talking about Tata Indicom. Other members on Reliance may share their experience, if otherwise. I'm not sure whether it is an android issue or not. Also not sure whether the later versions of android (froyo or gingerbread) have solved this SMS delivery notification issue or not.

Second, Fascinate doesn't allow conference calling while in roaming. Adding a '3' before connecting the second number doesn't solve the problem. I never faced this with hTc Touch (Sprint Vogue). This is a very big problem for me. While I'm in home circle, I face no problem in making conference calls.

Third, if you use TataZone internet packs which are wap packs, you will be able to browse only on the default browser. Better browsers like Opera or Dolphin cannot be used. Also you will not be able to use google applications like Market, Map, Gmail etc. Although I access Gmail on wap in a round-about way. On WiFi all applications are fully accessible. This problem was not there at all with windows phone.

These are the only issues I experienced with Fascinate. Otherwise it is a marvel. The super AMOLED screen on gorilla glass is super sensitive and fantastic. The SWYPE allows very fast input (I'm writing this post on my phone quite fast) and this facility is absent in Incredible. The GPS, accelerometer, compass, camera, speaker of Fascinate are of very good standard. You'll love to use this sleek marvel.

Only thing is am not able to get Horizontal Cradle for Incredible till now..

my vote for HTC Incredible..

Pricing - fascinate.

Specifications - fascinate.

Availability in forum - fascinate.

Incredible is older phone than fascinate.

Software - no difference till 2.2. 2.3 is not officially available for fascinate but it does not bring much extra except bragging factor. 3.1 will probably not be available on either phone officially. So even though HTC is quicker in updates it does not matter because these phones have reached end of life for official updates. You would also not miss HTC sense because you have never used it. Stock Android with touchwiz/launcherpro is also good.

If you really want HTC over Samsung because of brand wait for Evo3d. At the price in which fascinate is selling on forum you cannot go wrong.
