dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) Unboxing - http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/31537-review-sprint-htc-evo-3d-worlds-1st-proper-3d-phone/page__view__findpost__p__236203 Screenshots - http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/31537-review-sprint-htc-evo-3d-worlds-1st-proper-3d-phone/page__view__findpost__p__236206 HTC Site Specifications - http://www.htc.com/u...rint#tech-specs Sprint Home Page - http://now.sprint.co...3d/#/techspecs/ HTC EVO3D Official Support Page (includes Post launch update instructions) - http://www.htc.com/u...rint/downloads/ Review by Engadget - http://www.engadget....-evo-3d-review/ This below photo is of Green Hornet in 3D (though the 3D effect is not visible here). It is just unbelievably awesome. 3D actually works without glasses and eye strain. Initial Observations- 1. Build quality is top notch; better than Epic 2. 4.3" screen is brilliant 3. 3D photos watching is a pain on the eyes but movies is another matter all together 4. Though it is half the depth of Epic, feels heavier and solid like steel (though fully plastic) 5. Sound Volume seems lower than Epic 6. Soft buttons 100 times better than Epic (my main grouse); same like Incredible 7. Plastic Battery cover is like pappad but after closing feels solid 8. OTA to 2.3.3 (ver 1.13.651.7) has started automatically on wifi 9. Gingerbread + Sense interface is just awesome and beats any Samsung/Moto interface hollow 10. Watching Green Hornet in 3D (free download via wifi on the phone) is just F AWESOME. No Eye Strain at all. This truly has to be the biggest selling point of the phone that 3D in movies and games "actually" works on this phone. Volume is a little low (as was in Epic for movies). Headphones needed. 11. Downloaded all settings, HDR, PPP, PRL etc. in 5 minutes through Hetal (a big Thank YOU). Just waiting for MEID registration to complete. 12. The Lockscreen can be modified to many in-built themes. Default is set to weather. 13. GPS locking is about 5 times faster than Epic (as with all HTC's) 14. Wifi strength is also better than the Samsung's 15. 8GB micro sd bundled in box 16. Build quality of dedicated Camera button and 2d/3d mode is great 17. Qik Video Conferencing works great (tested over wifi) 18. Google sync did not work after software settings through cdma workshop were loaded. Had to do a factory reset to get it to start working. Factory reset did not spoil the software re-settings. 19. The Sense weather has more melodrama added with sound effects. 20. Dedicated Notification light on top. Algorithm is better than Samsung 21. 3D Movie - The Green Hornet and 3D Game - Spiderman, loaded by default (needs wifi) 22. Battery Life seems much better than Epic. Results here - http://www.rimweb.in...post__p__237741 23. New Update to 2.3.4 is now out and I received it OTA over WiFi (unrooted phone). It upgraded my Android Version to 2.3.4 and The Software number to 2.08.651.2. Details here - 24. After the new update, now you can take screen shots on EVO 3D by long pressing the power key and then the home button. Image will be in the gallery under camera Shots. Works even on unrooted phones now. Details here - What I dont like - 1. Low volume compared to Samsung hardware. Same was in Incredible where we solved it by 3rd party app. Will research more. Edit: With use for some days the sound seems to have opened up and increased by itself. Sound Test Video posted here - http://www.rimweb.in...post__p__237822 Seems more than sufficient to me now. 2. Screen brightness of S-AMOLED of EPIC is brighter than this 3D though very slightly. Nothing much to crib about. 3. Its heavier (170gms) than I anticipated. Maybe because of the humongous 1730maH battery (the highest capacity I have encountered). Its almost 60gms heavier than its competition Samsung Galaxy S2. It is even heavier than Epic (155gms) though it is thinner and easily pocket-able. 4. The Galaxy S2 is much slicker and sexier than this curvy babe. S2=Kareena; EVO3D=Silk Smitha 5. No headset in box 6. Lacks Kickstand aka EVO4G 7. 8GB Card is LESS by today's standards. Though 1GB RAM is standard. 8. Locked Bootloader. HTC has promised to send a software update by 1st week of August to unlock it.Therefore NO CyanogenMod ROM for EVO3D till it is unlocked.Edit : S-Off achieved; Bootloader Unlocked - http://www.rimweb.in...post__p__238042 Do the following immediately- 1. Change Proxy to 0.0.0.0 to enable YouTube Playback on EVDO by doing this - http://www.rimweb.in...post__p__237026 2. Change to EVRC-B for enhanced and clearer call quality by doing this - http://www.rimweb.in...post__p__237274 Edited August 23, 2011 by dkaile

dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 (edited) Some new finds - EVO 3D has a Task Manager under apps to kill unnecessary apps open (cool) It has a Clean Cache Setting under Settings-SD & phone storage-Make more space It has latest version of Swype Keyboard in-built (To activate, just do a long press in any text input box and toggle input type between Standard and Swype Keyboard. This Swype version also has a trace feature.) Amongst other things it has - 3D Games: A portal for 3D games from Gameloft. Blockbuster: Streaming movies. HTC Hub: Once you're signed in, you'll see things that your "HTC Friends" (ie other people on HTC Hub) are sharing, including apps and pictures, plus back up preferences on HTC's servers. NASCAR: Go fast, turn left. It's a Sprint staple. Mirror: A fun little front-facing camera app that acts as a mirror. You're so vain. Peep: HTC's own Twitter app. Polaris Office: A decent office software app. Qik Video: The old-school video chat app. Spider-Man 3D: Gameloft's Spider-Man game ... in 3D. Actually enjoyable. Sprint Hotspot: Wifi tethering. Sprint Radio: Internet radio. The Green Hornet 3D: The movie ... in 3D TeleNav GPS Navigator: A Google Maps alternative Some useless Sprint apps can now be removed (read bloatware) Edited July 13, 2011 by dkaile

dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted July 14, 2011 I am finally on 3VO. Awaiting EVDO activation. 1x is already working. Now I will look into the issues (as reported to me) of over-heating of the phone on prolong watching of 3D content and poor signal reception (same like epic). Even though since the 10 hours I am using the phone, I have faced NEITHER. Maybe because I am close to Reliance Towers and have been getting all 5 towers. Neither has my phone over-heated. Maybe people are facing over heating issue due to poor tower strength and those living in congested areas. Here everything seems to be A-OK as of now. dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) ^ like I said before I have yet to encounter any issues; its going like makkhan like with all HTC's and unlike samsung's which always leave some quircks. Though I am missing badly the LOUD speaker volume and slide out keyboard of my epic...That epic was a multimedia monster...
