Dear arjuntandon,

You can use the kppp from knoppix to use the r-connect, well if you dont select to save your configuration to some fixed disk then you have to create the account and do the modem setup each time your boot from the knoppix.

If you find some problem regarding using kppp in knoppix I can forward you my kppprc for knoppix.

Cheers ............

I tried using kppp and was not successful.... It did say initializing modem but there was no progress after that.

I would like to know about setting up the modem (LG2130 with the data cable) and connecting it with the R-Connect, in Knoppix Live CD 3.7

thanks.....

Dear arnjuntandon,

In the modem commands db of modem tab please enter ATZ;AT+CTA=30 and then try. Ummm well there is some prob with the kppp regarding the initialization of the modem, which is fixed in the kde's CVS trunk.

Right now when you see the message initializing modem, just press cancel and re dial again, in 2 or 3 attempts you will be able to get in, if you want to try the dial script instead just tell me I will post that, btw what cable are you using serial or usb to serial converter?

If it matters I have used knoppix so many times at my clients site and also used the r-connect, I am also having rd2130 and sch191 phones, both work flawlessly in it except some minor glitches.

Cheers ..................

I will try your suggestion. I am using a USB Cable to connect the LG2130. Also I will be interested to use the dial scripts. I am new to Knoppix and Linux so you may have to guide a little. Thanks....

I have tried the steps you have suggested to use RIM with Knoppix 3.7 Live CD, but have not succeded till now.

I have a question as we have in Windows we need drivers to detect the USB <-> Serial Cable (that comes with CD and the cable pack) then install the LG 2130 handset as a modem. In Knoppix how does it detect? I think since the system (Knoppix) does not detect the USB cable and the modem (only the association /dev/ttyUSB0 to modem is detected).

The RIM connection is working fine with the same computer with Windows XP SP2. The Live Knoppix CD 3.7 it does not connect. It hangs (in Kppp) at "Initializing the Modem".

I need to get this sorted out. Appriciate your responses. Thanks.

Dear arjuntandon,

Okiez tell me few things about your setup first, what chip is being used in you usb-to-serial converter, well if you dont have the information than please send the follwing files as attachement it will help me to solve ur problem. Open a console and execute the following commands.

dmesg > dmesg.log

cat /proc/usb/devices > usbdev.log

and send me the corresponding dmesg.log and usbdev.log, you can even find the information about what chipset being used in usb-2-serial converter from the windows hardware browser.

Regarding the availabilty of drivers in linux, you have the drivers of most commonly used usb-to-serial chipset, so you dont need the drivers from any third party vendor.

Knoppix have an utility to create symbolic link between actual device node and the opaque link modem.

But if the actual device node does not have the corresponding device attached with it then that modem link would be broken.

In your case can you tell me what kernel module is baking your /dev/ttyUSB0.

Anyway just provide me the information about the chipset used in your usb-to-serial converter cable, then only I would be able to help you.

Cheers ..................

Hi people,

I use a live cd (INSIDE) that is based on knoppix, and when i used my LG2130, to run the rconnect, i had to choose the LG2030 configuration in the installation script. It worked like CHARM, except for a few glitches like disconnecting after some time.

Now, I had to use another distribution of Knoppix for pentesting some networks, after figuring out that there is no option for mentioning that iam connected to my laptop using the USB during the installation of rconnect, via sh install.sh command, Ive tried using the other model options, just like i did using a different live cd. (INSIDE) that is, LG2030 instead of my LG2130.

Much to my disappointment, ive found out that after configuring and entering my username and password, i find in the console, after pppd dropping out that /dev/usb/ttyUSB0 isnt found..!!

To confirm, ive checked out the /dev/usb/ and found there isnt any mention of ttyUSB0 there.

Any help is appreciated. Perhaps i need aother preconfigured script that is being used by people running knoppix livecd??
