anshu_s09 18 Report post Posted July 25, 2011 Soon after Airtel and Idea, Aircel the country’s 5th largest cellular operator is now following the trend of hiking its tariffs. This is the first bold move from any operator in Tamil Nadu circle which has the maximum market share in the state. Aircel is the No.1 operator in Tamil Nadu and Chennai. In the lines of maximising its profitability Aircel has also made changes in the tariff structure. In an exclusive user feedback we got he reported to have received an sms from Aircel [DT-Aircel] stating about the hike in charges. The following charges are made effective from 25th July. 00:00Hrs. Base Plan tariff is being revised from early 1p/s to 1.2p/s for all local and STD on net calls and from 1.2p/s to 1.5p/s to other local and STD along with landlines. Other charges being constant. Now we hope to see other operators to follow the trend as within days of Airtel raising the tariff other biggies have started to follow an alliance of raising equally. Now its just wait and watch game. Source:- http://telecomtalk.info/aircel-tariff-hike-tamil-nadu/72394/#more-72394
raccoon 53 Report post Posted July 25, 2011 Bad. Both my phones - Docomo and RGSM have lifetime tariff validity. Doco lifetime validity is 1p/s... which they cannot/should not/better not change. Assuming that these operators want to increase tariff, if these existing tariffs cannot be changed, I guess they can increase tariffs only for new customers? anshu_s09 18 Report post Posted July 25, 2011 One thing to take note of, that all the operators Airtel/Idea/Aircel hv a hike in tarrif till date only in the circle where they are market leaders not in the circles where they want to establish themself, so lets hope the smaller player in their respective circle will not hike tarrif.... KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted July 25, 2011 Exactly... They are saying "We need more money for building infra, blah blah blah..." But they are INCREASING TARIFFS ONLY in circles where they are already filthy rich... The new circles where they have few customers and very few towers (simply where needs development) they are NOT increasing the tariffs... So I think this is time the new players can take it as a great opportunity to gain more subscribers via MNP...
